With that said, I really don't think a lot of these young kids going into the army really realize what they are getting into. Not to mention, I think a lot of them are going into it solely for the money, not to fight for some B.S. war. |
:stongue: :stongue: :stongue:
So they just up and run away from their responsibility. Whatever. I won't defend either perspective because it has nothing to do with me, but if you join the military under the pretenses that you would have it easy and make a lot of money, you should have probably been a high school guidance counselor.
Yeah, that was sarcasm.
And there's no getting off this train we are on now. People join the military or military-supported facets of government contractors, think tanks, weapons manufacturers, international arms firms or any other variety of human institution designed with self-extinction in mind, thinking that they will make a lot of money. And they are right. Genocide is a very lucrative business and you are kidding yourself if you think that we can "pull out now". The complex has become one of the largest human creations in existence, second only to God.
The establishment of over 14 permanent military bases in Iraq just further solidifies the extent of a "torn nation", as though the people truly have any control over what their monster does anymore. |

The United States requires you to be 18 to join their military.
It's the age established for people to start making their own decisions about the direction of their life. People make wrong decisions, yeah, but the worthy citizens follow through with their committments or face the consequences. Deserters do neither.
I would equate deserting your legal and moral responsiblities to the military in the same way that you would have legal and moral responsibilities to protect and support your child. Your choices have made the current result what it is, so you deal with it in the best way you can. You don't just abandon it. |

As you know I am no war monger or someone who likes the concept of one nation invading another but isn't enrolling in the army a substitute for university studies ( in many cases those who enroll in the States do so to have their studies paid for by the governement when they leave the service a couple years down the line! )?
Isn't it essential for people to enroll to do so as an early age as it is part of skills training?
Isn't war part of the very basic concept of being part of the military?
If you see the circumstances under which people enroll it only makes sense for them to join at 18.
There is absolutely no logic for them to wait. Not only for the armed forces themselves but also for the recruits.
I imagine you are bringing up the drinking age as a counter point to prove that under 21 year old people are viewed as unable to make proper judgements, possibly viewed as lacking maturity which in a sense would also make them unable to make a matured decision to enroll?
So what exactly are you suggesting?
Lower drinking age?
Raise enrollement age? |
