Popo got Harlem on lock for the past couple of years, it ain't nearly as ed up as it used to be in the 90s. Night time is a different story though, especially if you're a tourist. You could end up going on the subway with only your sox on if they let you live.

I don't think it's so much that popo has got it lock. Well yea it influences the region but Columbia has poured MILLIONS into the area. Anywhere from 110 all the way up to 170s is much nicer than it use to be.

At night, like anywhere in NYC, you have to be smart about taking transportation and what you are wearing or showing anyways. That's the typical nyc street smart mentality, whether you are uptown, downtown, eastside, westside, anywhere...anything can happen at anytime in nyc. It just depends if you know how to carry yourself properly. I've heard people getting mugged at Prince Street station smack in the middle of SOHO at 6PM during rush hour. It all depends on who you are and if you make yourself out to be a target or not.

It's the best city to live in. I went to high school there, one year in Columbus and 3 years in Lehman. I lived there all my life and then moved to Michigan last summer to help out my cousin who just got married (living expenses & wedding expenses)and it was the worst ing mistake of my life, the people here have no sense of humour and all sound the same, they're like zombies. The night life is down here and is pretty much full of rednecks. I got 9 more months in my job (boring Insurance company deskjob) and then I'm packing my and back to NYC :)

I haven't been to that bar, but is it another crappy yuppie bar like all the others in that area (Sutton Place, Metro 53, etc?).

too true. first time i ever tried taking a subway by myself, i was 16 years old (so, it was 1999) and attempting to get to Brooklyn. i got on the subway goin the wrong way and didn't realize it until i got to 125th St.

now picture this, skinny little white girl wearing a sundress in the middle of Harlem. i didn't go unnoticed for long, and this one crackhead came up and started hassling me, asking me where i was going and i just tried to get rid of him by saying i was goin to visit my boyfriend, but he wouldn't leave me alone. luckily this older dude who looked like he was homeless came over and sat down next to me and asked me if i needed help. he got me turned around the right way and even stayed on the subway with me for a while.

looking back, the old dude probably saved me from becoming a special victim, lol. :nervous:
