Yeah, that's exactly what I meant! I didn't know I could use PPP in this context :p
I find it strange, though, that Australia is down there on the list. How much is a bottle of coke there (2 litres)? It costs, at most, U$ 1.3448 here. |
hmm depends what size. I think the most expensive aer probably the 500ml ones at like seven eleven or something. I haven't bought one for ages so not sure, but i think it's around 2 USD.
The burger is actually not such a bad indicator cos it contains a whole bunch of different goods in it. A better indicator would probably have much more in it. SOmething like the contents of your average shopping trolley. |

The 500ml ones are 2 U$ dollars? The 600ml ones we have here are 0.6956 U$ dollars... Strange, how come the coke is so expensive there and the Big Mac is so cheap? :conf:

a 2L coke here is about $.97. A 12 fluid oz. (dont know mL) costs $1.15 or so. |

The 2L coke is more expensive there than here indeed (which I find bizarre). But are you sure you posted the right prices? If the 12 fluid oz. is really the 360ml tin can (or bottle), shouldn't it be cheaper than the 2L bottle? |

Yes... the smaller bottle is more expensive. It's crazy :p |

Maybe I meant the 600... not sure lol. I really don't drink much soft drinks these days. I do know that convenience stores charge exhorbitant amounts compared to supermarkets. a 2L bottle of coke tends to be way cheaper than a small bottle too. TOday I'l have a look at the actual prices for coke and report back lol. |

Sure did, economists call this "purchasing power parity". U can test it by seeing how much a bundle of goods costs in one country compared to the price of an identical bundle of goods in another. The Economist magazine uses the price of a "Big Mac" at McDonalds and publishes the results regularly, using the US dollar as the base. This is the chart of the "big mac index" for January 2006:

Looks like the Brazilian currency is undervalued by about 15%. |
the price in norway is way higher than any of these.. around 7-8 bucks |

| I rarely carry my wallet...I just keep a credit card, my driver's license, my bond aka get out of jail free card, & some cash on me, unless I know I'm going to need something else (insurance, membership cards, etc.). |

Wallet loss = teh suck.
It had 35 reais inside (think of that as 30 dollars or something, as things are cheaper here), a one-thousand-Lira bill, some documents and a Pokémon card my brother gave me when he was 12 (wha? it had emotional value to me :D).
I'm lucky though. It happened now that I'm on vacation, so it's easier for me to do all the necessary procedures :) |
I've lost mine as well! Apparently I lost it at the library (where I am now) and no one seems to know where it is.. but someone has it, the library called my parents' house and told me I could pick it up here.

It's the same here. The small bottles are more expensive than the larger bottles. Makes perfect business sense. If you want a drink you'll buy the small bottle, even if its more expensive, just because no one is going to walk down the street taking swigs from a 2L bottle. Those are only useful to have in the fridge at home or for parties. |

the bigger question is what were you doing in a library in the first place? :wtf: |
