By far the tune of the night for me. I just lost the plot whent his came on. Gotta love it when tunes you never expect to hear get dropped.
Mark O's closing sets are just fantastic. |

While the camera flashes got a bit much after awhile I think it was also the constant yelling in front to "look at the camera" "show some love" on and on...there were a couple of idiots in front that kept calling for him to pose and when he didn't they started going off. Like seriously people this is a club, he's a DJ, its not a fashion photo shoot and some people are actually there for the music. I'm pretty sure he's used to people taking pictures all over the world every night - comes with the territory of being a popular DJ. Some people just need to know when enough is enough already - let him play and stop already with the constant requests to look over and pose. Anyone would lose interest in looking up anymore and just want to get the hell out of there.
First part of his set he was all smiles by the way and doing his fair share of jumping around in the booth and interacting with the crowd - high fiving the first row and all. Any wonder why he probably prefers the lofty heights of the DJ booth at the Docks... |
I noticed that as well and it was funny when tiesto flashed a couple of sarcastic wide grins at some of the people shouting at him. There was even some girl who walked in and said something to him and he just said no and had her escorted out of the booth.
Personally, im disappointed that Tiesto didnt interact as much with the crowd as he does on most other occasions but im impressed that he was being genuine and not putting on a false face. |

My second trip to dragonfly and it was just as impressive as the first.
Professional nice staff. A great environment, and a different feel than most clubs around.
It was overcrowded, and the crowd did leave a bit to be desired(the tiesto chants during another dj playing irritate the out of me), but all that was to be expected and certainly did not ruin the night.
Tiesto came on a little after 1, and I couldn't believe how hard he was playing. He was switching between harder techy trance, house music and a more traditional sounding tiesto style, but doing it in a way that worked very well.
The first half was slightly better than the second half because of a surprisingly hard opening, and then the two tracks of the night pete heller-simpler(lawler edit), and way out west-mindcircus(g and d remix). There was brief time in the third hour or so that he did get a wee bit repetitive, but it was shortlived and he finished strongly.
The crowd thinned out a little after 230, which made the rest of the evening much more comfortable.
One thing I think should be fixed at dragonfly is the sound in the lounge area behind the dj where the booths are.
It seems as though they have intentionally made it not as lound back there because they think that people wont be over there, but it turns out to be one of the most comfortable places to be, and a little bit better sound in that area would be nice.
And as always, but even more noticable this weekend, great company and great friends is the most important thing in any experience. Thanks to a great group of friends for making this weekend one of the prime times of the year.
Nothing beats chewed up pickles in drinks, luggage cart races and early morning hot tubs. |
