I am joking about the Chi, but Ableton does sound lifeless, just can't put my finger on it. |
+1. can make some sweet sounds, but try doing that live mashup the real way

Interface imo. |
Indeed, the interface looks like it was designed by a plastic toy company. |

part of going to see a 'dj' at a club or any type of venue is the stigma of them being able to kind of interact with the crowd, having a sort of stage presence. 2 out of 10 people at a gig may understand what you are doing with those knobs, but the rest think it looks strange, they expected to see turntables, and a box in the middle with lots of cool lights etc.
in my experience, seeing a 'dj' play a gig with ableton is boring. somebody hunched over a screen, their midi controller on top of one of the 1200's, glancing up at the crowd every now and then. oh and did i mention them frantically trying to find enough space to use their mouse?
now, dj's (cough digweed cough) can have a pretty ty stage presence as well, but i have yet to see somebody using ableton that trys to go beyond playing good music and really get into it with the people who are there not necassarily because of the music (some of you may not agree with this, but lots of people just like to get ed up and move around to whatever is coming out of the speakers at very high volumes).
ableton is capable of doing phenominal things with music, but its live perfomance factor (ironic isn't it) isn't so great. |

Or you could be like me and stick your midi controller in the closet and use the mouse/keyboard. I find it easier. |
