Hey guys,
As some of you may have noted, I have been appointed the new mod of this section. I know the moderation of the stickies and threads this forum has been relatively stagnant for the last little while and am here to try and change some of that!
In this thread I'd like to take some of the suggestions about how I can make this forum better for everyone.
All non serious suggestions and unrelated posting will be deleted.
Please do not start debates in this thread and if you have a conflicting suggestion, post it. I will evaluate all of them and try to come to a logical conclusion. If you can't hold something back, send me a PM and I will try to work it out.
Hopefully Luke Terry and I can help make these forums better. I myself already have some ideas but would like to hear from you guys.
Cheers,
Greg |

no names mentioned but one person i see here having a good few unpleasant pops at people for no reason on a regular basis. i think bad attitudes should be punished from time to time with forum blocking etc. maybe when an issue arrises people can pm you with the link to where the issue happens. when the number of incedents gets to five then the person gets a week ban.
the issue really is making the whole board quite stale and i think detrimental behaviour shouldnt go unpunished.
eg- a newb will arrive, he will have been building up his knowledge for years- and truely love trance. then sign up to ta after hearing about it and will be a knocked down by nasty comments from 'seasoned pro's' that are really kids who have found trance in the last year or two, and have gained 'supreme tranceaddict' status by hanging around too much. - i always pitty these internet forum newbies when i see their thread starter and know a bunch of vicious people will soon hijack the thread. |

good point rich. i think thats why the comments get lower all the time because people are afraid to post incase they get flamed. |

i would like to see no more threads for example,
thread title -> hi my track is a big hit listen now!
and people should explain a little bit about their songs then only just saying, hi i made a new tune pls review. i always like to read about what the producer typed about their songs.
hope changes will happen.

i think promotion of your track should only be allowed if it has been shared in the forum then signed after so that people who reviewed it and helped you can know about the release.
some people come on here and promote every release coming out from their label. this person used to be an active member although now he just comes on every now and again to promote tracks from people that none of us have even heard of. |

i think i know who you mean, yeah promoting every track sucks to, though i can understand people would like to hear from other people how they like the track they made... |

| I think it may be a good idea to make it a rule that a thread must include a sample of the work. Luke Terry's rule's are a great beginning, but it may make it better if we make the thread names suggestions a rule and including samples a rule. This may help the forum look more organized and keep the content up. |

| Also, richg101, if you are having problems with a particular user on the board, send me a PM about it so I can deal with it properly. |

I'm not sure how much power you have, so forgive me if some of these are admin only actions. Also, this could applied to DJ promotion, no?
-A rating system
-People should define their genres better
The first one could be like a star rating system you see on some forums, with 1 (poor) to 5 stars. Or it could be embedded in the thread with the reviews (like at the bottom of the first post, you see an average rating).
Well this might piss some people off, but I just don't like random uninformative thread titles. I wish people would post threads like:
[Hard Trance] "Title Here"
Inside Thread, the first lines you see ->
|Tags: Fast, Energetic, Weird
|Comments: This took me some time to make
[DNB] "Title Here"
Inside Thread, the first lines you see ->
|Tags: Dark, Hard, Fast
|Comments: I had a lot of fun making this...
A sticky thread with the blank versions of this could be posted so that all they'd have to is copy and paste the blank forms and add their info, such as filesize, length, etc. Of course they can format their thread anyway they'd like after these first lines, but the first few lines should always be the same.
Why? Because I would love to be able to browse the forums and have it organized in such a way that I got to what I was in the mood to hear much faster.
As for the tags, you know what would be cool? If we all used a standard (but large) list of tags, and we put them in the sticky thread with the blank info form. I prepared a short visual example below.
Maybe I'm getting too carried away, but I don't think it would be that hard to do. If not, I'd still like to see this in the next version of TA.
Here's a visual example of what I meant by a standard Tags thread, and how it would make popular tags bigger, and less popular ones smaller. Click on them. I am SURE a programmer could whip something up to make this absolutely painless to make.
-E-
Energetic, Ecstatic, Exciting, Explosive
^Notice, the tags all link to the search result for that word when you click them. So regular users can browse the tags. (Well they all link to energetic, but you get the point) |

Akridot, I think the rating system is not something which TA will ever implement and is not necessarily something which is always used in the best way anyways. It seems like a good idea at a glance, but I think it will only make it harder for noobs to get recognized on the boards. We were all noobs once and we all know how hard it is to get people to listen to our tunes and give a give a decent review. it also encourages people to sign up for alt accounts merely to rate threads. I've seen it happen on other boards.
As for the way which threads and thread titles should be worded, I agree completely. As I mentioned earlier, we have suggestions for thread titles, but maybe thse should become rules. Maybe just in this forum, maybe in the DJ Promotion forum as well. I know the traffic in here is different and that threads take on much different directions here and can definetely see how it would be a great help to the organization and overall feel of this forum. |

It would be a good idea to enforce the rules we have first. I mean yeah, the rules are there but nobody really follows them. |
