Deleted my original response. I'm not going to get into this debate. I'm simply going to state for the record once again that people can PM me links to tutorials just as easily as they can PM a mod. It's irritating that anybody would think they need to go "over my head" when I'm not that picky and update regularly. And asking for specific content to be posted without providing any links sounds less like a desire to provide helpful info to the community and more like a desire to get somebody else to do the legwork for them. As such, I really don't think it's a helpful suggestion.
Interpreting my previous post as arrogant sounds like you read it as "I'm the only one with valid suggestions", but that's not even close to what I said. There are many people who contribute - they are the doctors. The inmates are the ones who only ever have questions. I never said inmates were the majority, just that this thread is going to be inherently selective toward them.
The Q&A was a neat suggestion. Upgrading the forum or lowering the search term limit are goofy suggestions. I stand by my statement that this thread is going to get a lot more inane suggestions than productive ones, and I can't see how that's arrogant in any sense of the word. |

| NO! |
I think it should be a rule to post up a sample if you're going to make a "how do i make a sound like x artist?"
If you look at all the "how do i make a sound like..." thread, most of the time we can't help because no one posted a sample. |

When posting, how about smilies, links etc. being inserted at the cursor instead of the bottom of the message? |
What do you mean by this?

I like the sound of this... :p... Will decide. |

Sure, why not just ask for more tutorials on "how to become the best producer in the universe with no effort, money, or talent"?
Not every topic has a step-by-step guide. However, if you feel that there are good ones (such as the ones on these mysterious "other sites"), why haven't you contributed anything when it's been repeated ad-nauseam that a 5-second PM will generally get it added?
Be careful, Greg - don't let the inmates run the asylum. Most people with valuable insight will tend to approach the mods on a one-to-one basis. These virtual suggestion-boxes tend to self-select in favour of the cranks. |

I think you might be right, but I'm willing ot take that chance. Thus far it seems to be working out fairly well in the other DJ forums and I think I'll keep it open in this one. Just because I'm asking for suggestions doesn't mean I'm going to act on every one... ;) I am just looking for a feel of what people find wrong with a forum like this and make one of two judgments about each suggestion: Shortsighted/Stupid/Immature/Irrelevant or Quality/Possible/Interesting/Clever. The ones that seem logical and easy to put into place, I have no problem doing- I just know not everone is going to PM a mod about things like this just because they won't... this gives people a public outlet and an opportunity to see what sort of issues are on other memebers' minds.
If it does get out of hand, it's very easy to delete, close or unsticky. So no worries. |

Fair enough.
FYI, what Synchronicity was talking about was that if you're typing a message, and move the cursor back up to the middle or the beginning of the message, then click on one of the smilies, it still gets inserted at the end of the message (as opposed to where the cursor is).
(That, I believe, is another example of a vB limitation that you can't really change :p)

When I think about it it's really not a big deal, but here's what I mean anyway:
I finish typing this sentence.
Then I finish this sentence and decide to put a link after the first, but when I insert the link it'll appear at the end of the whole message instead of where I put the cursor. Then I have to use shift and the arrow keys to cut and paste the link because when I try to select it it's joined onto the full stop.
So I just think it would be nice if smilies/links/html could be input anywhere in the message rather than just the bottom.

Eh, so I hope I explained what I mean more clearly this time! |
Agree :) . As you said, not a big deal, but can be verry annoying! |

| Either way, it's not something a mod can change and has nothing to do with this thread, really. |

Well. Maybe he has a connection to the ones who can! :p |

It would be great if you can add a new section that lists tutorial videos from YouTube or other places if there are some.
Also, the FAQ and tutorial master list doesn't really have a general overall explanation of setting up a trance song. If someone could make a turtorial of all the main things you do in a trance song, that would be great.
What I mean is how to set up a trance song so it's DJ friendly to mix, how many measures are usually used, when delay and reverb is used and for what instruments and sounds, the position of the usual break downs and transitions, creating a intro, creating a ending, etc. Just a general overview of a how a trance song is made. In other words, point out all the main things that make a trance song "trance" for this genre. I think this would be very helpful as a starting point in the master list.
If this already exists, I'd love to read it. Could someone please post a URL? |

These are technical tutorials, not step by step instructions. ;) Trance isn't even that complex. If you can't deduce simple structural elements by yourself and need a tutorial for that, I suggest finding a new hobby. That sort of tutorial is the last thing today's cookie cutter generation needs. |
