I also produce trance music, and I believe I have come a long way, and I do not try to copy people or their styles. With that said, I must say in the past year (I have been producing for about 4-5 years) videos on youtube have helped me more than anything. And it is not about not wanting to read or too stupid to produce trance. There is just something about seeing someone doing something that helps. If you just read everything in school and didn't have a teacher to teach you, would you be as smart as you are? Or when you join band in school and the instructor shows you how to play an instrument, would you be as good if you would have just read about it? IMO I don't think so. How many of you read Computer Music magazine? I have been a subscriber for years now and love it. But ask anyone who reads it what one of the latest and greatest additions are and probly they will tell you, the Masterclass Production videos.

Personally I like Adambomb337's suggestion +1

ps= I do like the tutorial thread you have there, I have used it time and time again, and I am not complaining about it, I just read this thread and was responding to what I read :) Keep up the good work, and this is the BEST forum in the land :toothless

This thread is interesting and throws up the problem noobies like myself have, which is that despite the tutorials and threads, somehow the basic question doesnt get answered. I like RichieV's suggestion and use to ask the same questions as Adambomb337, because its natural to anaylse the problem by deconstruction. If I play Bach on the organ, I have the sheet music in front of me and can see how it was constructed. Naturally, many beginners in Trance, go "wow, how the hell do you get that sound?" and cant find the sheet music ha ha. If I want to reproduce a particular chord or effect, the sheet music tells me. But Allied Nations is absolutely right that all the sheet music in the world wont make you a better composer. Composition is something else and it begins for many people as a tune in the head. I used to be able to hear a baroque concerto in my head as if it were in the room, but that was after listening to nothing but baroque concerto's for 2 years. Sadly, I didnt have the technical skill to write it down, because I was not musically trained. So I began with simple melodies. Now, after 6 months of listening to trance I am beginning to hear melodies and know what I wd like to happen to certain pieces I hear. Then I hear something new and think "wow,I didnt know that was possible". that is what trance is about for me and about having the courage to make our own unique contributions.
That said, you might end up becoming well-known for something you actually dont like producing, but may kick off a whole new era in trance. Meanwhile, I have questions that I dare not ask in case I get flamed he he:)

there is a comp on at the moment (you may off seen the thread in hand).
so i was wondering if all goes well, why not have some kind off incentive for being top ta producer.

I'm hoping the competition will spark a new wave, only the porducer forum doesn't get much in the way of publicity.

i think it would be good if we can get some big labels on bored.

anyway just thort id ask :D

How about you actually do your job and moderate the forum?

Not to give the impression that I am against suggestions and constructive criticism, but this has become a pretty stagnant sticky and IMO has outlived its usefulness.

Everyone is still welcome to fire off a PM to me about this kind of thing in the future.

seriously, who are the mods, and who runs the show and what is this thread really about? i think this part of the forum where nice until around summer time, when the moderator discussion came up, ever since that its all been a mess. delete spambots and their threads and leave the rest, its fine like it is. website-discussions like this should be in the website-discussion-forum and not filling up this place. :whip:
