If you are talking about the latest LCD's and Plasmas...I would say I still give the nod to plasma, but it depends what you are looking for.
The contrast, colors, black levels on a new good plasma cant be beat. But LCD will get you 1080p resolution for cheaper than Plasma. LCD's get alot more expensive as the screen size starts to go up, but that is changing. Also burn in and life expectancy on Plasmas are much less of an issue now. Best thing to do, go to your nearest tweeter or bestbuy and do some comparisons. Make sure the TV's are being fed by the same source, and have been calibrated appropriately, if not, tweak both and see what looks better to you. |

| lcd all the way. They are getting bigger with better contrast and better response time. The best brands are sharp and samsung, sony is expensive though. |

but they are fat but if you have space more power to you. Here is an article from Sony about lcd vs plasma , they are biased of course as they have retreated from making plasma and now make only lcd's and sxdrd types

Someone said that lcd has been around longer while plasma is new and that's not necessarily correct. Plasma has been a first flat panel tv technology for many years now while lcd is relativelly recent as far as tv technology. Of course lcd has been around primarily as a computer display and other smaller displays. The size was a limitation of lcd's before but now that has been surpassed and you can find 50" and higher displays now and in the future |

Plasma's have a 5 year max shelf life, although youre getting better color, there are VERY few Plasma's on the market that show in true HD (1080p). Pioneer and Fujitsu have them, but they are 10k. As far as 73 inches being the biggest plasma, that isnt true - Panasonic has a 102" plasma.
42" Plasma's @ $2000-$2500
50" Plasma's @ $3000-$3500
LCD's have a much longer life span, could go 10 years or more. Unlike plasmas where pixels start burning out, with the LCD's you replace a bulb (most bulbs last +/- 5000 hours) - downside is replacement bulbs are expensive. The new Sony XBR2's have awesome picture quality, but I think Samsung's is a bit better and they are cheaper.
32" LCDs
Sony: $1500-$2000
Samsung: $1000-$1300
40" LCDs
Sony: $1700-$2600
Samsung: $1600-$2200 |

LCOS is your answer... LCD is prohibitivaly expensive once you go large sizes (50+ inches)..
