Actually, Ive been working there for a year and a half - and I have done plenty of IT work for the site to know the differences that normal people care about.

And it has been my experience that most people will sacrifice alittle quality in the color, for a TV that will last longer (and is cheaper). And honestly does it really matter THAT much, by 2009 almost everything will switch over to HD and if youve got a 1080p, youre good.

source material for 1080p is a long ways away.

from normal viewing distances, or even closer than normal, the human eye can not tell the difference between 720 and 1080. you would have to be right up against it.

LCD technology had been around for a long time in compouters. tv lcd is relatively new. and yes, they are different technologies.

plasma shelf life is around 20,000 hours. at 4 hours per day average, thats 5000 days, or around 14 years.

LCDs are better to use if you are running TV and computer off it often. you can even split the screen on most to do both at the same time.

i like both technologies. i have a 26" lcd in the bedroom, am putting another in the kitchen and am about to buy a plasma for my living room.

no tv you buy now will be a "for life " TV. no matter what you get it will be outdated, technically, in a few years. but it will still look great.

I didnt know there was a 20,000 hour life on the plasmas. Thats surprising. Even if you watch TV for 1/3 of the day (8 hours) it should last 7 years, which is impressive - but I think you stand to have more problems with plasmas than LCD's in the long term.

The more technical technology becomes, the more problems you stand to have.

Simple tube TVs were simple technologies and lasted forever.

My dad has been in the business for over 20 years and Plamsa is way better. However, at the rate of HDTV on a 1080p the common person will take what he percieves to be the better one based on what people have told them, or on price comparison. It all depends who the maker of the TV is really at that rate. With such a high pixel aspect ratio. If you want THE BEST, go for a Pioneer Elite Plamsa (1080p). Best in the market. You wont be dissapointed. Problem is, the price is up there, but you get what you pay for with TVs.

For some comparisons you can go to cnet.com though they do promotoe some of the products over others at times (business). Overall a great site.

LCD is way sharper , almost all LCD's come in 1080p, good for blu ray and playstation 3 and all hdtv. The problem with plasma is that you can easily see the pixels, there is no 1080p plasma and the screen is very reflective. Plasma is basicly a bigger , leaner crt and it really becomes a problem when you see it with your eyes. Also plasma's are a little bit heavier, consume little bit more power etc... Bottom line Plasma is going out while LCD is becoming a standard for TV until something better comes out

check out the new Sharp lcd's

No man, go to the CES show in Vegas. Largest show for electronics. LCD is a backup in a sense for those who cant afford Plasma. Don't beleive me,well, i met with the vice president of both pioneer and hitachi and marantz because my dad is in the business. Yea, plasmas are in 1080p resolution now also. Also, wrong about the reflection. Get a good plasma and there wont be a reflection. Reason for the reflection is because with a plasma you get a darker more real depth image, where as in LCD the image is brighter, making it seem sharper to the human eye that doesnt know about tv's. Its a trick to attract those to purhcase tv's who dont want to spend much on the more expensive plasmas.

What more do i need to say, look at the price comparison. Nothing is priced high that isnt worth it over the lower priced one. Plamsas dont cost more for no reason. Also, look at what they hold at costco, target, etc... LCD. They do have plasmas but those are bad. For a low end tv line, get an LCD, but for a high priced plasma, nothing can compare. And pionner elite is the best out there.

Also, if interested, Marantz has the best projectors out there. 1080p systems
