So what would you rather have? Some "Friends"-style everyone holding hands at xmas style ending? No thanks. I personally don't think any of it is rushed eiher. that, the major plot lines have been building for 5+ years. It's about time for some closure, ffs.

Answer me this Peter, what other television show can even compare to the Sopranos? Based on depth, character development, captivating story lines, social commentary, etc etc etc? Honestly, give me real answer.

OK, maybe I should elaborate on what I mean when I say it's overrated. I'm not saying it's bad, or even that there's a ton of shows out there that are better. There aren't. Anything HBO puts out is better than almost every other regular cable TV show out there.
From an objective standpoint, the show is extremely well drirected and produced (especially season 6 part 2). Where I think the show falls short is the storyline and character development. Just the way they progress both of those aspects is very "meh" most of the time.
It's a good show, which I'm really enjoying NOW, as it's finishing. I just don't know it's "the greatest show ever" personally.
What shows do I think are better? The Wire, Carnivale, Deadwood. |

Alright, you got cred. They're good shows, agreed. Better tho? I think you're pushing it. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Something about the Sopranos really resonates with me, on a personal level it's almost inspired me (in a way). Kind of like the same way reading Nietzche has, or watching Steve Nash play basketball has. (lol, no I don't feel like elaborating on that)
The big themes that "resonate" the most with me are:
- being italian
- management (everything about Tony reminds me of really powerful people who have come and gone throughout my personal/ professional life)
- parenting and family (Chase nails down parenting in the 21st century better than anyone else on this planet)
- drugs & the human condition
- immigration/ globalization/ modern america today |

On an aside, did anyone catch the link between Episode 1 of Season 6 (part 2) where they (Tony, Carm, Bobby, Janice) are at the cottage discussing the child that accidentally drowned in the pool and how Tony couldn't "shake it" TO.... (more recently) AJ in the pool. (afterwards Tony actually says he can't "shake it" again to Carm in the kitchen)
Come on man, the writing on this show is next level... |

That's totally different though. We don't know if the kid committed suicide or not. That's hardly foreshadowing AJ's act of failed suicide.

Interesting. I've been reading some world issues books lately and the first connection I made was how similar the Sopranos mafia (or any mafia in general) is to the U.S in foreign policies, especially the Bush administration.
I'd laugh my ass off if Tony ended up getting cancer, since so many other big time mobsters got it during the show. |

I realize an accidental death and suicide are not one in the same. Thanks Peter. lol But are you honestly trying to tell me there is no connection between the two stories? So what it’s coincidence? Please Peter, quit being so stubborn.
How that story of the child emotionally disturbed Tony greatly impacts how much MORE detrimental it was seeing AJ in the pool upon returning from lunch w/ Carm. That exact moment actually flicked in from my head (them on the dock) even tho it was 6 weeks prior. I’m not going to argue this with you, lol it was done on purpose. |

I am going to agree with Jon on this one.
The writing for this show is unbelievable. If he was doing such a rush/ job on the storyline, it wouldn't have taken him a number of months in between seasons for the next to be released. I think David Chase is a perfectionist when it comes to his writing for Sopranos.
I am really excited to see where the storyline is going to go in the next couple of episodes cuz honestly, I don't think it is going to be all that predictable. |

I don't think the constant delays had anything to do with him being a perfectionist.
Whatever. It's a great show so lets just leave it at that. |

Last night's episode felt like I was watching a lethal, 50-car-pile-up on the freeway in slow motion. I felt sick to my stomach in anticipation of what horrible tragedy was about to come next.
The scene between Tony and Dr. Melfi was superb. |

OMFG.. I just watched it.
I know exactly how you feel. At points I was even turning my head cuz the anticipation was too much for me.
I really don't have anymore words atm. Intense is all I can think. |

| I was standing up the whole episode. I don't understand why Sylvio wouldn't keep a gun closer at least strapped to his ankle. The only other show that I've seen that compares to The Sopranos is The wire. |
