| im just curious what people's reasoning over NOT using the x-fader is? is there something i dont know about other than more control? if you know how to use it right (in other words, knowing the curve well) then you should be set. personally my vestax VMC-004's channel faders are too stiff to use for mixing imho... |

I like stiff faders and a loose crossfader.
But I'll tell you one thing, on my numark, i cant have it on the steep curve because it leaks all nasty. leaving it on the smoothest curve is the only way I can mix :p |

I never touch the thing. A friend of mine uses it all the time & often when we play together I mess up coz I'm bringing the channel fader up & haven't noticed he has the x-fader moved over to the other channel :whip: :whip: :stongue: :stongue:
SPAWNmaster - I'd say you were spot on. Can't speak for everyone but personally I find it smoother to use the channel faders.
Guys, how do you use the x-fader with FX? I've not seen or heard this technique before, what am I missing out on? Cheers :D |

I never use the x-fader since i got a mixer with assignable channels.
With the controll using x-fader thing Im guessing it would be from sending the wet signal to one side of the x-fader or having a mixer that sends a midi signal from the x-fader. |

i think what people are doing is having their channel faders assigned to the master output and using an additional channel to route effects to one side of the x-fader and using the x-fader as wet/dry control...i could be wrong though lol. thanks for everyones participation in the poll so far though. this is an interesting debate |

They're probably flash gits with Xone92's where you can set the crossfader to control the filters...
But the SPAWNmaster is right, with some mixers (DN-X1500 for example) you can use the matrix assign to send the same input to 2 channels at once, apply fx to one and not the other, then use the crossfader as a wet/dry control... which I do from time to time, but most of the time it's easier to just use the wet/dry knob
And I think what he was trying to describe is that you could set up a similar arrangement by using aux/fx sends to route a channel through an extra channel... |

I occasionally route the filters to the crossfader. I also have my EFX-500 routed from send one to channel one, and use the crossfader as a wet/dry fader, as was suggested above. |

At first I used the cross-fader, but thwen I noticed that my mixer had a curve and when I set it to the middle point, it will sound a little quieter.
Now I leave iot in themiddle all the time, and use the channel levels.
to be honest I rarely use the channel faders or the crossfader, I prefer to do everything with the EQ. |

No, although I see that developing ones skill in using it should not be avoided. Then if you need to use it you can.
