Looking for a traditional Ju-Jitsu school

Hi,
I'm looking for a Ju-Jitsu school in Manhattan, but to practice traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu, not "commercial" Ju-Jitsu.
For now I found some schools on the internet, and the prices are about $190 a month. In France I'm used to pay this amount for a year ! Is it in the average here ?

Japanese Jiu Jitsu or Brazilain? Most places around here offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Speaking of which, I'd be happy to submit you every which way to Sunday for free if you want. let me know. :disbelief |

i have to jet but real quick--
do you do jujutsu in france or? there is a huuuuuuuuuuuge difference between jujutsu (original japanese form, all one word) and brazilian aka Gracie Jiu-Jitsu as i'm sure you know... and if anyone else is wondering.... in short:
jujutsu: more motions involved with blocking and counterattacking your opponent, using his force/strength to your advantage- kind of like making his energy work to your benefit (hard to explain in words.. much easier to show with moves...and supposedly every technique is applicable (biting, eyegouging etc..but i'm sure you wont be doing that in training)
brazilian: best phrase to explain it: human chess...grappling with your opponent (always always always ends up on the ground), utilizing some throws, submission moves from ju-jutsu and lots more locks and holds.
i practice in Fair Lawn at Louis Vintaloro studio and i absolutely love it..
Renzo has a studio in Manhattan i think.. and no matter what studio you're looking at, you're talkin roughly 120-150 and up per month per membership. |

btw, there is really no such thing as "commercial" jiujitsu..
(there is DEFINITELY commercial karate and tai kwon do tho lol) |

Japanese. I'm opened to practice Brazilian (I know the differences), or others martial arts (I practiced Tae Kwon Do (3 years) and Karate (1 year)) but I'm preparing my black belt in France and I don't want to lose a year here without practicing, after 6 years of work.
Ju-Jitsu I practice in France is a mix of Judo / Karate / Aikido and self-defense. Don't forget that Ju-Jitsu, created by samurais, is the base of these martial arts.
When I say "commercial", it's because I am under the impression you guys have a different way to see martial arts here, for example I saw a lot of ads that make you think you can be Bruce Lee in ten lessons.
Also when I see the schedules, the classes last only 1 hour or so, and I'm used to have one hour and half or two hours in France. I don't think you can properly warm-up, learn techniques, practice and stretch at the end in less than one hour and half...
I am also looking for the "spirit" of this kind of sport.

haha, my living room floor or back yard. i don't do it under an organization, just messing around with my brother, my girlfriend and friends. Its a lot of fun. |
