Depends on how much you like driving. Personally, I love driving and everything about it. I love the fact you can be as warm or as cold as you like. I love the fact that I can go fast or slow when I want to. I love the slow cruising during hot summer days. I love the blasting down empty streets at night with the windows down and warm wind blowing in your face. I love the adrenaline rush during slippery conditions when you feel the wheels lose traction. I love upshifts. I love the spontaneity that driving allows you. I love the silent trips home when you can just drive and think about whatever. I love the trips with your car full of your friends and the random conversations that ensue. I love how it can be relaxing. I love how it can be exciting. I love how an hour-long errand run can make me feel better when I come back versus how I was feeling when I left. I love the way tunes sound coming out of 6 speakers versus a pair of headphones.
The only thing I don't like is the rushhour traffic, and even then it's only when I'm late for something and stuck in traffic. |

I am not mentally challenged, haven't lived at home with my parents for 10 years, owned 2 houses and nice cars......

| Just got rid of my car, loved it but, $1000 in my pocket a month is a nice alternative (considering I rarely drove it). First time without owning a vehicle since I got my license 11 years ago. |

| Since I don't have a car of my own, I have been using the TTC to get by for years now. I used to complain about it in high school, but now I think it's a blessing....plus, I love to scare random people on the train :clown: |

I agree with this. I mean, I CAN take the subway but I still keep my car for those times that I need a car. Your problem is the giant costs of your car. You should first look into cutting those costs before getting rid of it. |

I hate it when I have to go and get pet stuff and can't because the retail parks with superpet et al on are not easily ttcable but I don't hate it enough to warrant having a car.
All I need is a friend with a car who thinks my pets are cute.....

Now this is the pisser... We started off talking about the logistical impact of not having a car, removing all the emotions. Now Dima has highlighted the other side... the adoration of driving.
If we are talking about this, I miss my car every day. I, too, loved the random roadtrips or nipping out to see a friend or taking a drive to clear your head. Zipping around corners as fast as your traction will allow, singing at the top of your lungs (albeit tunelessley), randomly shouting at pedestrians, tooting at drunk people, keeping a spare change of clothes in the boot for those spontaneous overnighters...
All this, of course, in a stickshift. |
