The bpm is definately not the determining factor for a dance genre, it is the samples used to create a shape and flow.
I play my marc ashken tracks at +12/13 % of the original bpm :P, doesnt make it techno at all, but just faster paced minimal! |

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN HEAR TRANCE AT A SMALL VENUE?
my chance of ever being able to go to area is slim. i work on the weekends.
I basically started this thread because everything I'm composing doesn't really fit within the genre of house. I don't sing anything like a black diva :-) Most of my composition is based on classical music but tribal and dark.
I find people in montreal to be very picky about genre and BPMs. I don't see many pure house DJs playing my stuff, so it's time to explore. |

because u have techno that goes starts as slow as 128 or less bpm... and then minimal techno which is even slower
house can range greatly too... 120 till about 134
trance ranges alot as well.... not to mention all the different kinds of house/trance...etc |

Make music that you personally enjoy doing, don't make music for a specific genre. Otherwise I promise you'll blend to the background before even gettinng in front.
And u'll need an experienced producer, most edm tracks with vocals sound like , but those that don't follow really specific guidelines, I hope your producer is aware of them.
All the best,
moeva. |

I don't sound anything like stevie nicks or jan j. people tell me i sound like madonna. I have a pretty straight forward pop voice with a little embellishment and vibrato from time to time but not much. Although i think my music is a bit out there to ever actually be a pop artist.
the producer is me. ive been learning for about 3 years. i went to college for music. but as an engineer I have a LONG way to go, you're right especially on engineering my vocals. electronic music is a very different medium. i prefer to work alone for now.
my interest in BPMs is very specific. One of my hobbies is to study brain waves and it's all about the BPM. I like to hear different peoples opinions, especially when they take a liking to different ranges. there are reason's why, that actually correspond to different responses in the body. very interesting.
also as someone that has studied music and dance my entire life, i know it's not optimal for health to stay at the same BPM for extended periods of time. it would be nice to hear a DJ set that explored BPMs especially in the afterhours. |
