| quote: | | also, the last song piet dropped was incredible... i never heard it before and as usual i was running around asking ppl if they could id it (LOL). nobody knew, so i asked piet at the end and he said it is by airbase (some song from the afterglow label) |
Yeah this was a wicked end to the night, I'd love to get an ID too.
I got there just before 12 and enjoyed Shultz, though trance in general isn't my favorite. IM I'm still confused about... they had high and low points, seemed both really cheesy and really awesome, but the energy in the room while they were on stage was enough to keep me happy.
Rank 1 murdered me. I was falling asleep before I even got there and still couldn't stop dancing. I am in pain, but I love it.
edit: I forgot.
To the dude from cherry beach back from Canada day, if you post here... I can't ing believe you picked me out of a crowd, jesus christ. Good to see you man :D |

Wow.
I was there, and I was HAMMERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember almost nothing from this night, except for Piet (Rank 1)'s set!
BLEW ME AWAY! !! I never stopped moving once Rank came on (before that is a whole different matter!)
I was instantly energized once Piet hit the decks! What a DJ and gracious guy! He was entertaining the crowd w/ their request for much of the night.
A seriously top-notch DJ, producer and gentleman! I cannot wait till hes back in town again! I hope its soon already!
Ill post more once I get home, and see what information and memories I can pull from my brain that havent already been permanently forgotten because of Molson Canadian. |

YO WHAT UP!!!
I am new to this...just wandering thru, saw this thread. LOL 2006 was my first epic nite @ the GUV scene. WOW, whata nite to remember. I naturally went looking FOR vids, pics and reviews of the event afterward. In fact thats how I found this site and subsequently became a member, after reading the review threads for the Labour of Love event.
Allow me to introduce myself...HELLO ALL!!! FYI --- The names TOM
After LoL, I was hooked on big high energy events. I had been intro'd into house and prog-house in small scale venues like the IV Lounge and at Comfort Zone in Tdot...seeing my friends spinning tracks was awesome. And man do I luv my House music, but not until LOL had I ever taken notice or even listened to trance. That nite I did in fact officially become a Trance Addict. I had only ever heard Tiesto before, which by all means, is not a bad DJ to showcase how great this music really is. But that event gave me perspective on its diversity, and I revelled in every minute of it hearing some of the big gunns of trance drop bombs all nite long. AvB, Cattaneo, Benny Banassi and Digweed were my hilites from that nite. Boyz Noise in the Tent was sick.
My subsequent follow-up to LOL2006 was this event, Ultraspin11. Although not hyped as much, and some areas were closed from last time, I really enjoyed the setup. Not having to walk around a 30 minute circuit to get to a room was a definite improvement, though understandable considering the relative size of the crowd. KoolHaus was Chillin, wasnt feelin MO in the GUV til later on, not my kinda crowd. One place I newly dicovered this time round was the Gallery...I kicked it back there for a while, met some really neat people and busted some funky moves to the DJ's playin back there...IT was Awesome!!!
I managed to catch the ass end of Barato's set when I first came in...He was alright but I wasnt in right mindset yet to really groove to the music. By the time Schulz came on tho, HOLY can that man play to the crowd and get a room Bumpin'. I just couldnt take myself away until it ended. After groovin front row and centre to that whole set, I felt like a large flaming bagg of t on the world's doorstep. Needed some chillin time to relax and recharge.
At that point, thru the Schulz set I met a few TA's
Mikey N --- so recognizable from his photos, stuck out in a crowd bustin a move in his all-white get-up...Said hello to him briefly, intro'd myself, got the TA stamp of approval. Then met his girl, the absolutely radiant FunkyCrew. You two were great!!!
Chinamon--- again knew him from his photo, said hello. seemed nice. And low and behold he was carrying the camera that would later catch those infamous topless shots that there seems to be such commotion about. No comment--- but eaze on up people, No harm No foul!!!
After Schulz I switched it up, went out to the GUV patio, chilled out there for a good hr. What a world out there at that hr...absolute craziness everywhere I looked. Seein some dude being manhandled and then tossed out of the patio was kinda crazy....he was thrown hard into the steel fences on the outside and then probley roughed up after I would think, since he took acception and pushed back--- all i saw was a rush of bouncers and it was ON...Those bouncers were outright brutal, borderline malicious with that guy, I felt bad, cuz i had met him earlier and he seemd pretty cool, but really messed up at the time ---I think it was over drugs, he was peddling MDMA caps, sketchy, I wasnt havin any of that. Then I got busted by another bouncer while puffin a Doob with some people out there ---grrrrrrrr
After my apologies and great thnx for allowing me to stay, I continued on, and found my way to the Gallery while following a friend. Great scene down there, some weird ass ASIANS trippin hard back there....but aside from that, the music was great --- Vinyl Junkies ripped it hard, he was so amazing. I met him and chatted with him for abit...What a great guy, he gave me a copy of his CD, which was great, made my nite.
Funny coincidence of the nite ----had heard alot about Infected Mushroom, had listened to some stuff I DL'd from net, which I liked...so I had intended on catchin his set...WOW good thing I didnt, as I hear from so many, despite the energy you get while listening, and the insane beatz he drops at a mile a minute the over whelming majority i talked too said it wasnt that great, and anyone who had experienced IM before said it was all the same. I walked in during the IM set, heard lil over 5 mins of one of his openers--- walked right back out the door...definitely not what I was looking for at that time and place.
Went back thru Orange Room, stopped to get some sweet-sweet H20...whilst I'm waiting---not to label or anything--but this gangsta G homeboy chillin at bar next to where I stopped, tried to heist me. He pulled a in knife out on me and said to give him money...WOW that was freaky!!! I backed right the off and booked it ---went to tell someone, but when we came back they were gone. Where's the security on something like that? I thought like that is stopped at the door --- you should not have to worry about who's behind you and what they have in there pocket. I'm originally from Kingston and after hearing about so many stabbings in bars back there, especially one's involving people I knew, this kind of thing is very scary. So word of advise, as I'm sure you all know, Be careful, Watch Yourself, and keep ur head on your shoulders thru the nite, cuz you just never know...By all means the majority are there to have a kickass time, but these pussies with a knife are everywhere--- my advise to them is to Be real men, and learn to fight with their fists instead; Leave the hardware at home in the kitchen where it belongs.
I was freaked out after that, and just needed to chill, so chatted with some lovely ladies on the couches back near Gallery entrance---best time of the nite groovin it with those girls
When I was rdy to dance again, I came back thru to find IM off the stage, and the startup for Rank1 beginning....WOW. Found my buddies and good spot to chill & listen to da-beatz. Some songs he played were unbelievable, the place went nutts. AvB's Control Freak was insane hearing on a GOOD loud system. Track after track the entire set was amazing and I was dancing ever-harder as it progressed. The drugz were really good, started kickin again midway thru the set and goddamn I was flying.
Nite was amazing aside from few moments of horror. Ladies were looking fine, the crowd was very lively and extremely friendly, and the music was AMAZING, w/ a few exceptions. Nite was just way too much fun, ended up leaving just before 7, and let me tellya --- sunlite on trance enduced comatose victims dont mix well...absolutely piercing after being in the dark for hrs on end. Man was I ever messed up when I left there, you really notice it walking out into reality.
Afterwards my buddies took me too Cherry Beach, that was cool chillin, listening to more music, puffin some doobs. Great way to wind down!!!
Thats all for now, off too class.
PS/// Cheers to cheap tickets available for next week @ GUV 10th. That was a bonus. Cant wait for this one, Deep Dish Oakenfield & SvD are my big draws to the nite...but it will be interesting to see how the rest will do, hadnt even heard of half the acts. Hope to maybe meet some of you there.
Take'er easy, and if she's easy Take'er twice
PEACE
1 more thing--- How do you put up a profile pic?...and Will there be a TOTA meetup at the GUV 10th? I'd like to meet you all if I have the chance. Word1 |
