for me it's the second choice of course, but unfortunately I'm realizing I have a family that wants me to choose the other when it comes down to it. :wtf:

Having money doesn't necessarily bring happiness, but NOT having money can make you unhappy.

I never understood hypothetical ultimatums like this, what do they provide us?

Suppose the following made me happy-
[Expensive]:
Make music (IE: Having lots of musical equipment and instruments)
Eat healthy
Have a large collection of videogames
Have cable internet

[Gray area]
Live in my own house

[Cheap/Free]:
Exercise
Have sex with someone I loved

Is what makes me happy. Most of those cost money to have and do, so if I chose "happiness" you're saying I could have them but not the money. Which would make the money useless to me. That's if it was "no money/happy or rich/unhappy".

And if you mean I'm simply "not rich, but have money" than what's the point of asking this question? If my happiness (see above) will be fulfilled, and I still get to have money... why would I choose being rich?

Being filthy rich wouldn't have any benefits whatsoever...

What I'm saying is, this question is deeply flawed. How could a person who was only happy when they purchased expensive diamonds answer this question? They'd have to change their definition of happiness, wouldn't they?

It's your choice that matters, not their's.

Oh dear.

I'm not saying the entire population consists of it, but I'd say I've ran into a lot of shallow people in my life.

Shallow people are literally "human garbage". Worthless.

Me, as a NYer, living in South Florida - many people here I know, prefer wealth over happiness. Personally, I prefer happiness, over wealth. I've said all my friends in South Florida, and they look at me like :wtf:, because they were born with the wealthy lifestyle, and live in ridiculous homes, all over Boca Raton, and Coral Springs.

For myself, I've seen both ends of the spectrum. My parents were very well-off, when I lived at the family home. So, it's fair to say, I've acquired a taste for finer things in life. However, living on my own has been a totally different experience. It's not easy, choosing to moving out of your home right after college, with close to nothing in your name, because your father is impossible to live with. So, I know what it's like to be broke (yet, not in debt), and living the good life.

In conclusion, I'm grateful for everything I have.

From experience, the thought of being rich isn't everything to me. Without happiness, you can't live a productive life. Money can't buy happiness. There are many people with a lot of money, who live miserable lives, and eventually may take drugs and/or alcohol, living a life of destruction.

From what u have written you have never been flat broke with no one to turn to...never wondered where you will get food or a warm safe place to eat....you had people to turn to.

Yes there are rich people who are miserable in spite of wealth but i assure you people who are broke and unhappy otuweigh them by the billions.

happy ....but i think being healthy can lead to happiness ....i dont think extremely poor people are happy

anyway i have this example of a man in the town next to mine who won the lottery ...he got several millions of euros unfortunately he had to go to asylum because he was more than depressed because of all this money (before to win he was a 40 yrs old single butcher ) and suddenly was surrounded by hot girls who were trying to marry him for his money

recently i've read he is in jail because of drunk driving :wtf:

Nor, do I pity every famous celebrity, that has been arrested for drug and alcohol abuse.
