yeah, the keyless version was going for about $800!

since I got my virus TI my Jp 8080 doesn't get all the attention it should anymore. So it just sits there gatering dust. I feel a bit bad about that.
mysticalninja
it really does have alot of low end!
DeZmA
so has the virus ti.. having a jp and a ti is kinda pointless imo

abit different? they sound totally completely different. jp is the king of pads hands down, and it really has its own clean character. i'd actually take dual supersaw any day over hypersaw.. really supersaw is just so much cleaner and airy, and the trebble boost just eq's the highend perfectly.

Waste of money having both unless you are loaded. Don't know why anyone needs two virtual analogues, even if they have different characteristics. Unless they have a tonne of other instruments and want a very specific sound from the JP - namely the supersaw/feedback oscillator.

Theres plenty of other synths that do things which neither the Virus nor JP can ever do. V-Synth can do variphrasing. Microwave XT can do complex FM. An Alesis Fusion will give you a pretty convincing piano and plenty of other sample playback stuff.

If you wan't variety, its a better idea to get one of every type and broaden the palette of sounds you can make.

As for the JP being the king of pads...Virus is very good at making pads because of how flexible the LFOs and mod matrix is. The polyphony is also way higher than the JPs. Way higher. Even on the B and C models. One of the greatest strengths of the Virus is its ability to make complex, evolving pads but then NI Absynth is pretty stonking at that too because you can import samples in place of oscillators, thereby building sounds out of timbres which are too complex to create using subtractive synthesis.

i just put an offer in on what i think is a great deal on a jp8080. we'll see, i was really thinking my next purchase would be a virus or a moog but who knows!

Only if better means not having a keyboard and having a vocoder instead.
