If you find a link to the article, my opinion might change, but until then, having a large database is not all that impressive imo.

This week I have added and chatted with a whole bunch of old friends from high school that I haven't seen in years literally.
It has been fun to hear their stories and find out what they have been up to.

I am sooooo addicted to facebook more now. But myspace is nice for creativity. :)

For me:
Facebook is for long lost friends, mostly high skool.
Myspace is for DJs, labels, parties etc

Pretty cool read (lots of stuff there I didn't know, and I'm glad I took a database course so I could understand wtf they were actually talking about). I will say that handling that much traffic is quite a challenge, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that myspace is excelling at handling that challenge - from the article, even after many many infrastructure revisions, they're still getting a 20% error rate, which is still too damn high imo. Getting that much traffic is something they should have tried to project or foresee, and plan and act accordingly. Instead, it looks like all they did was try to error-correct as each new milestone was passing. I'd give them much more credit if they did preventative maintenance instead of just fixing each problem as it came along.

So get this – I just joined facebook, and I have been on it for a week and this chick from my work which is my boss which once sent me a forward and I saved her email, which added her to my facebook…. So get this she keeps spying on me and telling gmyy manager that I am on. Even once last week when I was off she told my manager about this! I was like WTF! So she’s a bitch and basically what I want to know is this; can I hide when I am on there and hide my wall from other while I am on there!?? And how do I set myself as private?

I usually get this crap – but I need to know quickly so I can go on there and do this!?

Thanks
Cosmic Fur
I've got a quick and easy solution for you:

1) Delete the bitch from your friends list.
2) Set your privacy setting so that only your friends can see your profile at all.

Edit: If she's saying she sees you on Facebook, doesn't that implicate her as well? Cause you have to be signed into Facebook to know someone else is online.

I've thought about this question over the last week or so and came to the conclusion that you really cannot compare MySpace and Facebook.

Facebook is basically a contact management solution (with a few extra features [photos mainly]). 90% of Facebook's functionality is contact management (event invites, notes, grouping, contact info). It is very effective at connecting up with people you know and then keeping you up to date on the goings on in their life. If anything Facebook should be compared to something like Plaxo as they are much more similar.

MySpace is built around the concept of self expression, sharing and socially connecting to people in an engaging way. Most of MySpace's functionality is customization (custom personal pages, custom profile). MySpace's purpose is more about sharing, self-expression (personalization), involving and interacting with others (groups, music, video, blogs, classifieds, news, etc.). It is more of a hub.

I just joined Facebook but have yet to go on Myspace...
I will probably create a Myspace page for my PR venture - Shamrock, once I get my website back online... seems to be a ton of spam/advertising on that site though which sucks, especially lately.

I can't really compare the two just yet but Facebook seems alright... I will likely use it as well to upload some of my European pictures!
