what a night to say the least!!

walked in to find out that there had been some cancellations and i was going to be closing the mainroom. thanks those that made the extra effort to come down when they heard the news. i got to live my dream of playing nightmare by brainbug on halloween, but never did i think it would be at 630am in the docks mainroom!

my night began opening up the back tides room from 9-1015ish. this was alot of fun too and great to have sarah beach 420 hanging out in the booth with me trying to flirt her way into some free shots with the edm hating bartender.

the next several hours were all about the breakbeats. red turtle was solid, czech played some good tunes here and there, and myagi was ing great! ive heard nothing but great things about myagi over the last couple years, so it was great to finally see him play.

astral projection was much better than i thought, and also way less drunk than i expected. however, give me john 00 fleming anyday.

preach was great! definately lived up to the hype and i would love to check him out again sometime. hopefully he makes his way around to toronto again soon.

I can't believe I actually had my hair dyed, lol. Thanks Katie and Mona, it came out good - even my parents like it. Wicked color actually - I look Scottish now. I think I'll have to start faking the accent now, and wear a kilt.

The music in general was Break-alicious. Once again, came to see a whole range of DJs and sounds, but the Breaks stole my soul for almost the entire night. I realise that I absolutely love dancing to Breaks - sooo much more fun than any other genre. I was actually REALLY surprised how many of the TOTAs spent the beginning of their night there. Considering Tides had the 4/4 sounds before 4am, and yet all of you were in Liberation Lounge and not Tides at that time, well, as Jamie would say, I consider you all Broken now. Welcome. :toothless Then again maybe it was the fact that Liberation Lounge is probably the best room in the complex - the bar is close by and the bartenders are quick, there's spots to chill, and the door to the outside kept filling the room with cold, fresh air. It was awesome. Highlight of the Breaks room was definitely D-Monic in the 3-4 time period. Just solid, solid tunage. I wish I was in a better shape at the time so I could have actually danced to it.

My biggest regret of the night was not writing down the set times on a piece of paper and taking that in with me. By like 1am, all the sheets with the set times that were posted on the walls were ripped down (jesus, have some common courtesy for the others - don't just rip em down, use your cell or find a piece of paper and a pen to write them down), which totally ed with my plan of the night. Not knowing who was where when, and having to work on my less-than-reliable memory, AND trying to figure out the set times after the time change, made me miss a lot of the DJs I actually wanted to see.

I did catch DJ SS though, and he spun a really wicked DNB set. Tali's MCing was good, especially when she sung the 'It's Love (Trippin)' lyrics over a song. It came out really smoothly, and I just love the lyrics themselves:

They say I'm crazy, the way you got me open, baaaabyyy
They say I'm buggin', the way I'm tight sweatin' your loooviiiin'
They all sit and wonder whyyy the reason this I cannot hiiiide
It ain't a question of pride.

They say I'm trippin', the way you got my whole life flippiiinn'
They say I'm loooosin' it, just can't seem to keep my grip, babyyyy
We all cry when we feel pain, when love is gone we're not the saaaame
It ain't a question of brains.

They say I'm crazy, the way you got me open, baby
They say I'm buggin', the way I'm tight sweatin' your lovin'

They say I'm slippin' the way you got my whole life flippin'
They say I'm losin' it, just can't seem to get my grip, baby

If you want the track, the DNB version is 'Matrix - It's Love (Trippin)' and I highly recommend this one, but the original is by Goldtrix.

I'll agree that the DNB crowd was a little more pushy than I'm used to from them. Maybe it's all the youngins who don't have the respect for the scene yet. And yeah, DNB chickas are smoking, especially when they can actually dance to DNB, and not just grind their ass like they would in a Hip-Hop club.

I'm also glad they "fixed" the sound levels for DNB. I was soooo happy to hear all the synths, and not just the bass and the kicks. Actually in general sound was really good the whole night. You all may complain, but I'm happy I didn't have to bust out my earplugs and that I could talk to people without going hoarse.

The rest of the night was a drug-induced whirlwind. Caught a bit of Astral Projection, and they were playing ing awesome Psy. My faith in them is restored, good job guys.

Preach, hmm... Preach. He was okay. He made me dance, but his set wasn't anything extraordinary. There are much better Techno acts out there imo. I have a good feeling that if it was D.A.V.E. The Drummer instead, he would have torn the roof off the place. Hint hint wink wink, Destiny promoters. As I remember, there were only a couple of songs that I loved, around 5:20-5:35am old time. His track selection was definitely bangin', but a little too "flat" or "empty" for my tastes - I like the multi-dimensional Techno songs, with lots of crazy-ass synths.

Andrew, congrats on closing out the mainroom. Definitely must have been a big honour for you. Prog isn't my thing though, so I can't really comment on how good your set was. But from the reviews that I read from TOTAs, it looks like you knew exactly what you were doing.

Overall, another solid Destiny night. God I love these parties - they rarely disappoint me. Love the range of sounds - Trance, House, Techno, Psy Trance, DNB, Breakbeat. Even Guv all access events can't compare. The vibe was wicked as usual, mainroom was a little overcrowded in the beginning of the night, but was just perfect later on. And it was damn cool too, so you weren't sweating out of every pore in your body. I'd give the night an 8/10 or 9/10 (the music could have been a little better).
Misanthrope
wow, where to start?

I can't believe I was thinking about missing out on this party. I really love the destiny parties that are thrown at the docks. I'll admit, I wasn't even THAT impressed with the line up. I didn't even bother checking out timeslots to make sure who I saw, I just went with the flow.

I love how it's an all ages party with +19 areas. Separate coatcheck and most importantly, the breaks room.

D-monic always does a stellar job with picking the right line up, with awesome talent.
In fact, it was in the breaks room that I listened to my favourite set of the night.

Me-ow. Not only is he hot behind the decks, but on them too.
He made my night by playing a Daft Punk track. I have no idea which one it was, unfortunately, but it made me chimpanzee dance so hard, I almost cracked a tile on the floor. I was GAGGING for a daftpunk track. He gave it to us!
Myagi played the most awesome drop ever. ha! I wish I could describe it better, but it's just one of things you have to be there for.

Oh man, the DnB room was banging. I think the reason why I was so fackin tired was because, i started my night off going crazy to DnB. Mc Tali did a pretty wicked job, Dj SS did a great job, despite tech difficulties. It was so banging. HEAD BANGING .

I saw a dj play whatever, but the minute he played puts your hands up in... I ing booted out of the room with my friend Katie in tow. I CANT BELIEVE I HEARD IT AT DESTINY. ALMOST RUINED MY NIGHT. I'm so sick of electro. oops that's another story.

I loved the psytrance dj. holy . yum yum yum. ASTRAL PROJECTION!!! so so awesome. What was even more awesome that my friend, Katie bummed a smoke off him and he offered me too - HOW COULD I NOT ING TAKE IT? haha.

yeahhh that happy moment came to an end, when the bouncer [who I had previously smacked into] ALL OF SUDDEN CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. SMACK. He was really nice about it, I apologised a lot and then went down on my kne.... JUST KIDDING haaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahah. He's soooooo getting blocked from myspace!
Speaking about my lovely wonderful, tolerate all my crap friends....

Of course, my gay friends who came with me wanted to stay later. I was so ing tired by 5am. I really can't do these nights dancing so late anymore. I WANTED TO GO HOME. mainroom dj was boring me, dnb wasn't kicking it for me, and breaks wasn't hard enough for me.. soo..

Bacchus
Mona, what are you doing in here?

Dan, I have to stay awake, I'm falling asleep.

yes...yes.. I was dancing to, singing to, screaming to
*~~~* HAPPY HARDCORE *~~~*

However, I learnt two things.

E.N.D is a ing awesome HHC dj.
AND
I got to see my one of my favourite local hardcore dj's
PSYKLONE
I really love the way this dude works the decks. GUESS WHAT HE PLAYED?!?! GABBER?!?! WOO HOO!
He usually gets the closing slots for most events, which is why I rarely see him. ok I lie, I pretty much never attend HHC/HARDCORE events as much. [ now that I've said it, i'm probably going to end up at more of them HAHA]

This is what I love the most about Destiny at the Docks, 4 different rooms of music, VARIETY. Docks always has enough space for me. I'll probably never meet the people behind Destiny - BUT THANK YOU! Thank you for putting out wicked events for everyone to enjoy. I can't believe I've never been to a WEMF. EVER. That's changing next year.
[Rock or no - i'm there]

TOTAS I ING LOVE YOU

editing: mentioning tota's!

Here you are critical of people not knowing who a dj is...

...yet here you make the very mistake yourself.

So do you fit into the "scatterbrain" category you defined earlier?

Give credit to where credit is due, Andrew spun very well last night, he also was very mild mannered in handling the barrage of interuptions he was taking.

Most dj's would not be so receptive to that. Making one request is one thing, asking to look through a dj's cd book is something else.

They are the ones hired by the club to spin their style, so how about we let them do that?
