| So guys I'm going to be moving to LA in May as i'm going to be going to USC in the fall. So i'm wondering where I should live. I've had a lot of recommendations for the silverlake district. I want something that is a fun fairly nice neighborhood that is fairly close to USC but isn't stupid expensive or run down. |

Yippee! Congrats fellow Trojan!!! I am an USC alumus :-) I must say that the BEST price is renting through the University. However, living in nicer parts of LA is more fun for shopping and stuff (but is a HORRIBLE drive in terms of traffic).
If you plan to be partying around campus, it is smarter live closer. My first year I lived in a dorm, second year lived in a Univ. apartment, third year moved to Beverly Hills (10 miles away and it took an hour drive in morning traffic), and my senior year, I lived in downtown LA on the 17th floor of Promenade Towers. It is off of Figueroa (down the street aout 2.5 miles from campus) and is in a nicer part of dowtown LA (in the sky scrapers). The rent was much more reasonable than the apartments right around campus that were not university owned. It had a great gym, pool, spa, etc. and made for fun late nights with my friends.
Enough blabbing, but this was one of the biggest issues while I was there. If you have anymore questions at all, feel free to ask :-)
Hope this helps! Fight On!! |

| So would you recommend against living in silverlake then? I probably won't live on campus because it will be me and my girlfriend and while we are both going to be going to USC I don't know how that'll work out. |

Price-wise, Silve lake would probably be a great deal comapred to living near campus. Its roughly 10 miles to campus (off the 101 and the 110 freeways-which are very tough during rush hour traffic). However, if your classes are not scheduled to start and end during normal rush hour traffic hours, it won't be all that bad. Also, how many days per week are you scheduled to take classes? If its only two or three days per week, I think it would probably be worth it.
Hope that helps :-)

I haven't set up my schedule as its for next fall. I'll be taking Music Industry and Philosophy double major though so i'll have quite a few classes i would imagine. I'm sure I can work the schedule to get what I want.
What major did you take? |

How exciting for you!!! Both are great majors at SC! I majored in PolySci and geography and loved them both. I was aable to schedule my classes most semesters so that I would only go to class on Tues/Thurs or Mon/Wed/Thurs. (I would go to classes all day long but it was worth it to have the extra days off). You can totally work around it though. Are you a frosh or will you be a transfer student? Either way, you can make it work so that you could probably have driving less time.

I was going to go to law school but had a change of heart when I started volunteer at schools in LA. Instead, I got my MED in Multi cross-cultural education.
Since you have the BS GE classes out of the way, you will have great stuff to lern about. I am so excited for you! I wish you and the GF good luck :-) |
