the difference is that hip hop and gansta rap wasnt so prevailent in top 40 as it is now.
And yes there were some incidents but never shoot em up styles and you never really heard of deaths as a result.
Fights always happened but not shoot em up styles like now. |
What part of the 90's did you miss in Toronto??
Apparently all of them, since Gangsta Rap was probably @ it's height in the mid to late 90s.
Also the violence has always been @ this level, it just didn't effect us or happen to us.
There were what, 4-6 EDM club shootings in 99 or 00???
Not to mention the stabbings @ the big parties, like the one @ the Docks that is often a topic on TRIBE. |

| as i said the gangsta was usually in some dumpy strip mall "club" in rexdale or scarborough. Not in the club district. Furthermore other than spin cat and that space dive (the 2 lowliest places in TO at the time) i cant remember any other shooting at a EDM event back then/ |

and much more tougher laws, so that before these shmucks would wanna use their guns, they'd stop and think of consequences |
tougher laws won't do . what they need to do is increase the speed that a person gets caught and punished following the crime, and the certainity that they will get caught IF they commit a crime |

| Its time they put up LOADS of surveillance cameras in club land. They have them up in Dundas Square, and the first time they were used, they apprehended a shooter as a result. |

I agree. The music being played in clubs today is not gansta; it is just club hip-hop, party, stomping feet, getting drunk, sex music.
There is very little true gangsta rap these days, imo. The struggle is gone, and not as many are singing about their tough lives. |

that really freaks me out, especially since I have to walk everywhere downtown. maybe I'll start taking cabs/streetcars more often...:nervous: |
Just don't walk around the club district on a friday or Saturday night and should be fine! |

and just where exactly do the authorities stand on all this?
It seems that such incidents have become a commonality in the toronto club seen but why hasn't it been made mandatory to have metal detectors installed at every venue with the additional threat of 'failure to comply with the rule that resulted in someone getting seriously injured would result in closure'.
Its amazing how easy it is for people to get away with carrying illegal weapons despite the supposed pressing of gun control laws. I was the only person at this fast food joint over here day before yesterday and i was just about to pay for my order when this guy walked in wearing a scary movie mask jumped over the counter, pulled out a gun and robbed the store ... having never seen a gun used for such purposes before and now seeing it being wielded 3 feet in front of me , i have officially given up walking out at nights alone. |

you're telling me if we start cutting their genitals out wouldn't solve the problem to some degree? |

lol..sorry. didn't realize THATS what you meant by tougher laws. Just assumed you were referring to longer sentences and worse jail conditions, which ahs proven not to work.
my bad. i'm sure threat of castration would work in quite a few people |

thats cause that rarely happens at edm clubs/events.
sorry but imo there is a difference between hiphop/top 40 clubs and edm clubs(nights). |
