Borat is quality. He is ignorant, offensive and downright rude. I love him.

There's other comedians who use political commentary that i enjoy more. Am i missing out? Maybe i'de have to watch the film instead of clips, but his character alone annoys me so i doubt i'de go see it.
I haven't seen the film so i can't vouch for it. I've just seen his work on the Ali G shows. All Cohen's character's rely to some extent on him convincing the interviewee that he is an idiot within the first few seconds or before the interview.
It's not just the fact that there is political content there, it's the method he uses. The brilliant thing about this satire is that he doesn't need to take the piss out of them, or state his opinion. He puts the people in a position where they take the piss out of themselves. A redneck making an idiot of himself is much funnier to me than a guy standing up and telling me why he thinks rednecks suck.

If youre gonna watch the movie, and just watch Borat, than yea, you missed the point. Its not about what Borat is doing, its about how people react to him.

BORAT star Sacha Baron Cohen was beaten up by a passer-by after he tried to play a prank as his alter ego. He approached the man and said: “I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it.”
But the bystander didn’t see the joke. He took one look at Cohen and punched him in the face.
The funnyman — known for his Borat catchphrase “Jagshemash!” — yelled for help but was slugged again and again.
He was rescued by actor pal Hugh Laurie who had been on his way to a New York bar with Cohen.

Laurie rushed to help and pushed the man away as Cohen struggled to his feet. A pal of Cohen said: “Sacha couldn’t resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person.
“I guess this guy thought he was being attacked by someone unstable and lashed out. Sacha is very lucky he didn’t get a much worse beating.”
The incident took place after Laurie and Cohen appeared on the US TV show Saturday Night Live. The Brit comics were on their way to a late dinner when Laurie suggested they visit a bar in Manhattan.
Laurie, 47, told friends he feared Cohen was going to get badly beaten up. Luckily, 35-year-old Cohen did not receive any lasting scars.
Studio chiefs have warned Cohen to avoid pretending to be the spoof Kazakhstan TV reporter on the streets. Since the film was launched he has only appeared in character while promoting the movie on American television shows.
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is tipped to become the highest grossing comedy of all time.
Astro, i understand the beauty of the method, and i could appreciate it. I just don't appreciate his characters.

I guess this is were hes trying to come off as an idiot..i don't find it funny at all though. Dosen't he say similar phrases to everyone else?
Im sure the scenario he gets people into may be funny, but him just being there would keep me from enjoying it..i guess it's just me.

Its amazing that as soon as something goes mainstream or explodes, it doesn't take too long for someone to protest against it, and claim it to not be 'the next big thing'.
Thing is, no one ever claimed this to be any such thing. It does appeal to a wide demographic, and it is light-hearted humour. Besides that, what exactly don't you get about it? It's over-rated? By whom? What exactly ISN'T over-rated? It's not over-rated, it is merely popular.

This is the exact point I made mention to, youre too focused on Borat... the funny part of the whole thing is that he got the kicked out of him. Its not about how he interacts with society, its about how society interacts with him.

yeah but this thread is about Borat himself being lame, as well as his jokes. Like i said, im sure the scenarios might be funny, but the guy is just annoying. Anyone have a clip that they consider funny and wouldn't mind posting it?

Ive been watching BORAT since 1997, thats 9 years now....and he never disappoints...always funny....
