for the most part, borat himself isn't funny

its the things he gets people to say that are funny
sometimes, yes, he tries to steal the show, and yes he fails once or twice, but still

so according to what you say here, in order for cohen's humor to be effective, the interviewee needs to be under the belief that cohen's character is 'for real', yes?
now lets suppose you do not know of sasha baron cohen, or his character borat, and he comes to interview you... do you believe even for a second that he is who/what he claims he is? if you answer "no" as i expect, you must concede that this technique is only viable against the feeble minded of us. the feeble minded require no further provocation to be portrayed as idoits, racists, et cetera, hence making cohen and his characters redundant. |
