1/2 correct. You have to search better. ;) |
I "search" just fine.
How about you list these long, bore-less titles that have been released within the past few years? ;) |

| As an RPG freak I will recommend RPGs, at the top of my head: Dragon Quest 8 (100 + hours), FF12 (80+ hours), always imo. |

Okay. That's 2 exceptional games. Out of HOW many total releases, altogether? (I don't expect you or anyone else to know this) |

How long is a 'long' game to you?
Personally I think what's more important in a game is pace.
Look at the difference between a couple of games like Xenogears and FF7. Xenogears had a really long story and takes about 70 hours to complete on a typical first-run-no-sidequests play. FF7 took me 34 hours. Despite only having half the game-play time, I enjoyed FF7 MUCH more than Xenogears. The main reason for this is that Xenogears' story was told at such a slow pace (not to mention the millions of fights against super-weak monsters that took ages to kill because of the combo-system and the fact that mass-attacks were weak).
On the flip side, I REALLY enjoyed Dragon Quest 8, and without side quests that too me about 60 hours. This is because, while the story is long, each individual task your party needs to carry out is done so at a fairly quick pace.
Another good example of a long game with a good pace is Dragon Warrior 7. That game is 100+ hours of gameplay with no side-quests, but doesn't feel like a chore because the main story is broken up into 30 or so mini-stories. So when I sit down for a session of DW7, I can complete a story or two, and come back to it later, and it never feels old, because there's always a new story to be finished, which will only help fill in the bigger, main storyline's black holes.
It's not hard to find a long game, but you're absolutely right on it being tough to find a long game that doesn't get boring. Personally, I prefer a game to take about 40-50 hours to complete without side quests. But that may be because I grew up in the SNES RPG age when 30 hours was epic. |
