just because i have to correct a little bit more doesn't mean i'll refuse to mix certain tunes. the point is, .1 is manageable. you don't NEED .02 pitch to be able to mix flawlessly. "mix in more important ways?" please, elaborate. |

| I learned to spin on .1 and have no problem beatmatching a track and transitioning as long as I want. Minor adjustments aside, .1 is more manageable. |

Sure thing. By 'more important ways' I mean mixing tracks that in sequence build up/bring down energy in a set, mix well melodically, etc. Factors other than easy-to-beatmatch.
In any case, whatever works for you is great. IMO if you have to correct, you're not going to make a flawless mix. Playing live, that really doesn't matter. You can still rock a crowd making frequent corrections. Even John Digweed does it.
When it comes to making a recorded mix however, you're going to hear the correction, and that reduces the quality of the mix. That's where more precise tt's will help you out. |

blah. guys. debating whether or not .02 is necessary is not the point.
the real debate is, why pay the same price of .02 for .1? does the Denon really make up for it in features?
so lets say no one on earth needs .02, sure as hell doesn't hurt. |

you can make minute corrections without it being audible. check my mix for example. /shameless self-promotion. sure, i agree it helps to have more precise equipment.

does the denon make up for it in features? i think so, others don't. i can agree with you on that though. this argument will never end otherwise. |

that's just it. the debate is pointless. i think we should just lay down the facts.
-both decks play mp3s (the Pio won't play VBR mp3s, dunno if the Denon will)
-both decks have effects (although the Denon SERIOUSLY trumps the Pioneer in this area)
-both decks have looping functions
-Pioneer has +/-6%, +/-10%, +/-16% pitch ranges, with 0.02% increments at the lowest range
-Denon has i dunno how many ranges, i believe it goes all the way to +/-100%, and it always uses .1% pitch increments
-Denon has vinyl emulation
-Denons have been known to mess up for no reason (some do, some don't, but it is not an isolated incident)
if you want all those features over the pitch accuracy, by all means. and after seeing a few Denons mess up, i feel safer owning a Pio. |

Well now to be fair on the "Denons mess up" comment...
Denon DID have some issues with their DN-S3500's. Serious issues, but I believe they have been corrected with the latest firmware.
I didn't have any problems with my Denon DN-S1000's when I had them (I have CDJ-1000's now, not because I didn't like the DN-S1000's, but because I wanted to spend way too much on CDJ's... hehe).
Pioneer is not perfect either, however. In fact, they CDJ-1000MK3 had some firmware issues when released that cause a number of well known DJ's to refuse to play on them.
Pioneer has since corrected those issues with a firmware update.
As long as you buy a mature player (which both the Denon DN-S1000 and Pioneer CDJ-200's are), you should be fine.
Oh, and one thing the Denon's have over the Pioneers are the pitch bend +/- buttons. Some people love them, some people prefer the jog wheel, but at least they give you the choice.

all that is good and well. and yes, all companies have their flaws when it comes to product reliability at first. but i just can't get over the fact that my friend bought a pair os S1000s around the same time i got my 200s, BOTH his players messed up 6 months in (and he treated them great, bought road ready cases for em and everything) and my 200s are still in new condition. |

yeah i've had mine for a while now too. not a year *yet* but they've been nice to me so far. and yeah, they DO play vbr's. you just can't search through the track. dunno why. +1 on the pitch bend buttons too.
AND, denon semi-regularly releases firmware updates for the s1000. they just released an update a couple months ago, even.

well, the 200 will PLAY the VBR as well. it just won't pitch bend or let you search either. |
