Sure I have, mostly at jokes made at the expense of white people and jokes made by people of a particular race about their race. In some ways such humour counteracts true racism by taking the sting out of it.
But when some skinny white guy from a private school (who has no understanding of discrimination in any but the most abstract sense) came up to me first day of uni and said "what's the difference between an abo and a dog turd? The dog turd stops stinking and turns white hahah" I was about ready to snap him in the face.
I think there is a fine line there, and if you're not sure what you're doing you should just leave it.
And as for plain racism - shouting derogatory remarks at people based on race, reminiscing about the good old n1gger-lynching days etc... I think there is no amount of provocation that justifies that. |

I don't think it's hypocritical at all. The same words mean different things when said by different people... that's just a fact of communication that extends beyond racial slurs. |

No, we don't. Sure, we know he was heckling him but again, we don't know precisely what was said.

I'm the last person who will justify racial behavior. I'm a firm believer in equality no matter who/what/where/why you are. Thus, I'm a firm believer that if you think it's okay to say something to someone, don't be offended if they flip it around on you, otherwise you have no place saying it.

I understand that, but do tell me what was said at the beginning of the incident. You can't, and for that we won't know who was the first person to throw a racial slur in that argument. |

on that note, are you going to tell me that there is no word you and your close group of friends use that has a particular meaning for your group and a different meaning outside your group? if its not the case, then you could agree to disagree, if it is the case though, how could you justify disagreeing with what he said? |

I just watched the video to see the what happened.
He did go over the top. Wayy to much N word after the first few.
No one in there right mind would say that word more than 2 times especially at the top of their lungs and try not to look like a racist person?
but....People paid for a show to listen to him speak. Not to listen to a heckler. In the end the heckler ruined the show but richards added fuel to the fire and now people will look at him different like Mel gibson. I guess when your famous anything you say can and will be used against you without even being arrested.
off topic but how does TMZ get all this sutff anyhow:conf: Freakin pay random people for their cell phone video if they hear something on their "celeberity finder radios" that something went down in the comedy club that night? |

oh yeah, i totally agree. its just that i dont believe making fun of racial stereotypes a priori makes you a racist anymore than making jokes about fat people means you dont like the fatties either. i think the audience is important, which is why i would never make a racist joke on TA but would with close friends that know i dont mean what im saying. |

i don't find it funny. the black guy should have been behaving himself in the first place, but the kramer guy did not need to take it to the n word and the black guy should have not called him a cracker.
if someone calls me the n word, what good will it do to call that person a cracker or some other ethnic slur? absolutely nothing.
and i find it juvenile that some people find it funny. |
