Plus, he probably would have recieved some laughs...

i don't find it funny. the black guy should have been behaving himself in the first place, but the kramer guy did not need to take it to the n word and the black guy should have not called him a cracker.

if someone calls me the n word, what good will it do to call that person a cracker or some other ethnic slur? absolutely nothing.

and i find it juvenile that some people find it funny.

You know, living in Australia, I have never heard anyone say cracker in real life, in the racial context... I kinda wish someone would call me a cracker.. I'd probably giggle my ass off.

This is most disturbing. :(

personally, i find it very hypocritical. It's just bull, you want to use degrading slurs - fine, but don't get pissed if someone else uses them as well.

Obviously you miss the point.

I can call my best friend a whore, and we laugh about it. If someone else called her a whore, we would tell them to STFU.

Some of my friends can call me "toots" or some other female degrading name that I don't particularily like, but if someone I didn't know called me that, again.. they would be told to STFU.

Certain groups try to reclaim words like N i gger and queer so that they can pull the negative conotation away from it, but when others use it, and it has been historically proven that the word has been used to demean that group, it's often inappropriate.

As for the guy retorting by calling him a cracker, well... we're all juvenile when it comes to "defending" ourselves. He called him a n1gger, he gets called a cracker. Tit for tat.

Kramer was totally out of line, and personally, I don't blame the club for banning him.

oh yeah, i totally agree. its just that i dont believe making fun of racial stereotypes a priori makes you a racist anymore than making jokes about fat people means you dont like the fatties either. i think the audience is important, which is why i would never make a racist joke on TA but would with close friends that know i dont mean what im saying.

Yep. :)

on that note, are you going to tell me that there is no word you and your close group of friends use that has a particular meaning for your group and a different meaning outside your group? if its not the case, then you could agree to disagree, if it is the case though, how could you justify disagreeing with what he said?

sure, sometimes we "x" cuss word in spanish (marica, cerote, culero, cabron etc) or english (******, bitch, [cunt etc) to refer to each other casually, but we never use latin racial slurs with each other.

"I was there. The guy he was yelling at was being an Ass Hole. He started the racist first. He wouldn't shut up. They called him at least 10 different names. He said "you suck, your an idiot, a dumb ass white mother #$%#er" and on and on. You only see 2 minutes. It was 10 minutes of two Black guys #$%#ing with him. They tried to piss him off and it worked."

If you know the whole story, the heckler was talking through out the whole act. "Kramer" couldn't even get one joke in, without this guy saying something. Then when "Kramer" calls him out, the guy gets all butt-hurt and pissed.

Not defending him..but.. that may have at least softened the blow a bit if we saw that footage too

interesting. who knows what any of us would have done in a situation like that. resorting to racial slurs is crossing the line though, i agree.

but let's face it, we're all racially prejudiced to a certain extent. i don't think anyone can deny that we all have certain pre-conceptions of other ethnic/racial groups.

no need to drop the n-bomb though, lol

Thank you. That's exactly what I've been trying to say for a while now, and it's nice to hear a bit about what happened during the parts we didn't see.

Jerry Seinfeld was just on Letterman, and invited Richards on to have a chance to apologize. He seemed genuinely very shaken about the whole incident, was upset with the audience at Lettermen for laughing at him when he tried to apologize, offered his sympathies and admitted that he had got out of hand and needs to do a bit of personal work.
