Undecided on mixer (part 2)

Ok, so I was going to choose between two A & H's (xone 32 or 02) but then did some more reading. I had pretty much decided on the xone32, but Soundwerks brought up the idea of an ecler. After more reading I started liking the idea of this mixer, specifically a nuo 3.

Now I think I may get a nuo 2 as it still allows 2 line and 2 phono inputs, which should be all I'd need. I also like the kills on the nuo. I do not have a local store or any friends that would allow me to play around with either the xone32 or either nuo 2 or 3.

My major concerns are (just from reading reviews):

difficulty with the volume matching on the xone, as in there are only four led lights on the cue bar vs 12 on the main. Some have said it is difficult to predict loudness of the incoming track.

I am unsure as to how the filters work on the A and H. I heard they're awesome, but since I'm not the most technically adept it worries me. I usually just mix with upfaders and cut with eqs/upfaders. The idea of the ecler kills seems good for me.

Finally, I have no idea about sound quality with the eq's. This is mainly what I mix with and most desire. So although I've read the quality is great with A&H, the lack of kills leaves me less margin for error. I also have no idea how much time it would take to get used to those filters for kills. (it seems complicated)

I know this is the second thread about my indecisiveness, but I really appreciate your input as I don't know any people with knowledge.

Thanks again!!

go ecler, save money.

my opinion is slightly biased, I have a nuo 5, but there are lots of people that will recommend you a&h and in many cases only because of the common perception we all have about xones...

I would try them both prior to releasing the trigger,

check with a local music shop and play around with both. You'll figure they are similar in many ways

Hello sailor
AnomalyConcept
Disclaimer: I have an Ecler mixer as well.

Price vs. features, Ecler mixers are less expensive than comparable mixers, but still are high-quality. As someone suggested, always try out stuff (if you can) before you buy! Not only is it awesomely fun to play with expensive gear, but you get to experience them first-hand and form your own opinion.

Only thing that I'm concerned about on the Ecler is that many people have noted that the EQs are mid-heavy. I haven't really played around with another mixer, so I can't accurately judge that statement.

Also, I think Soundwerks is the North American Ecler distributor. Not sure if that was disclaimed. Ecler makes great mixers, though. You can't go wrong with them.

Thanks for your help. What do you mean by mid heavy. Most of the frequencies are controlled by mids, or lower frequencies are more noticeable?
Tony Morello
the bandwidth of the mid eq leaves a little to be desired on the ecler

go for the A&H

Yeah, PM Soundwerks with any questions you have and I'm sure he'll help you.

I had a Xone:62 which was a nice mixer, but the filters exploded.

I've played around on the Eclers Nuo 3, 4 and 5 at MY local store and have found that the popular belief that Ecler EQs are absolutely horrendous, is 100% true. The mids on this mixer are for some unknown reason SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the hi's or lows.

BUT, Ecler's are still ing bad ass if you can get past that problem, I love the knobs and the faders and Ecler gives the Xone series a serious run for it's money in MANY MANY cases.

And Ecler mixers are way ing sexier than A&Heaths :p :p :p :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

:stongue: I wouldnt call it "horrendous"...actually, a LOT of people have said they were the sweetest EQ's they've ever used (you can do a search on these forums, as I've seen it before).

But its all up to your own opinion. Actually, I think there is a sound file online somewhere that shows the EQ seperation...lemme find it...

OK! here is a sample I made with the NUO5 (along with the effects) from a while ago.

http://www.djforums.com/reviews/sound/nuo5_sample.mp3

The first 1 just play the song normally, with the EQ's flat

at about 50 seconds, I start messing with the EQ' (I cant remember what I did...and after hearing it...I dont really understand what I've done! LOL )But you hear it go down to a full kill on ALL EQ's.

At 1:10 I bring in the HI EQ (to +10, then to 0), then the MID (+10, then to 0) and then finally the LO (+10 to 0)...so this should give you a better idea.

After that is just me messing with the effects.

If anyone wants, I'll make a better recording of the EQ's and focus on the MID.
