For me Ferry Corstan sits on a fine line...
some of his tracks i LOVE and they are truly amazing (the older stuff)
and that some of the stuff is not even real trance anymore, even at labour of love for a good period of time he was playing that wierd style that he plays.. maybe till about 7 - 8 am when he started playing melodic goodness.
if ferry came to headline on his own, i dont know if i would make it out to see him or not cuz i would be bored for half of his set |

I'd call what he produces/plays now synth-pop...but I wouldn't label Punk and Rock Your Body with it...Punk...a form of pop? :rolleyes:
As far as Ferry killing trance...that's just ridiculous. |

Sorry, but Ferry didnt invent trance, nor did he kill it. Trance is still around, but not as 'popular' or mass produced as before. Where are all the other acts/producers/DJ's that used to be huge 4 yrs ago? Why aren't they taking some of the 'blame'? Why is there even a need to have a scapegoat at all?
I dont think anyone is to blame. Fads/interests change, including DJ's styles, and there's no way one DJ can have THAT much effect on anything like this claim. |

Just b/c a DJ is labelled a certain style of DJ does not mean that the person has to STICK to that genre. Half those DJs don't even consider themselves the labels that are given to him. Case in point...in an interview awhile back that was posted...Paul Van Dyk said he wasn't a trance DJ. From the insane amount of sets I've heard from him...I was shocked by his remark...but whatever...he doens't consider himself a trance DJ.
Secondly, I had the pleasure of asking Ferry Corsten where he was going with his music in New York this past June. And he told me that he likes to switch up the styles of music he's spinning. For those of you who know anythign about Ferry Corsten, he started off spinning ambient music (and eventually would like to go back to that). He spun trance for a number of years...he said he stuck with that sound the most. But now he'd like to do something else that he enjoys...i.e. spinning electro. If you don't like the new stuff he plays, that's your own opinion. Go listen to your old MP3s. IMO, I love everything that Ferry has done. I prefer his old trance stuff, but I respect that he would like to do other things with his music, and I quite enjoy the electro.
So for all you that say "Ferry Corsten killed trance" I give you a big :rolleyes: I didn't know that once someone is labelled something they had to live up to that label :rolleyes: |

Now it's not that he isn't doing that now, but he tends to tip off to somewhere that makes me want to sit down and not dance. I read an article about him in Mixmag a little while ago asking, Can he save trance? I am gonna say no. It has gone into a zone I am not sure of, a little of inconsistency and sometimes just a magical mark of pure genius. So who knows....:conf: |
