It sure had some classics, but also some really bad games. If anyone knows about the Angry Nintendo Nerd on Youtube, here is some hilarious videos of him tearing apart some bad games for the NES:

The best part of the NES IMO is how well it layed the foundation for the generation following it. I've posted countless long winded diatribes on why I think the 16 bit era is the quote "Golden Age of Gaming," and without the NES there is relatively little chance it would have ever happened.

The NES brought gaming to the mainstream - And all of sudden everyone was making and playing games. This resulted in both some of the best and worst games ever to grace the small screen - But more importantly, it brought so many developers to the table that by the time the 16 bit age dawned, game development had become so much more than just programming - It had truly become a refined art practiced by a large community.

The shear number of quality releaseso made on the SNES, Genesis, and even the Turbografix 16 would never in a million years have been possible without the flood of developers that came to the table during the days of the NES, stumbled through the awkward moments that ran rampant in the early days of game programming, and honed their craft with the sole purpose of creating better.

the NES, it's contributions to gaming were absolutely remarkable.

Greatest console of all time? Well, that's different kettle of fish completely... ;)
CONNERMAN2000
The NES truly did kick ass. I'm not sure if I would call it the best console ever; thats an award I would most likely give to either the SNES or PSone, but god damn did I have some good times with that system.
Push2005
I was still a kid when I played the NES, but I was totally in love with Kirby :D

And yeah, of cource Mario 3 & Megaman were sick aswell :)

Actually, THIS is the best system ever created...because it will eventually have all NES games available for download...along with all SNES games + Nintendo 64 games + games from the Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Turbographics 16, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc

Wii pwnz hard :)

Nintendo also saved the video game industry back in the 80s thanks to some slick decision making

if you think the Wii is the only system capable of playing the games of those platforms above, boy have you been living under a rock. Those systems and games have been emulated for years now and can virtually run on any new HD based console.

Trust me...I've seen PSPs that can flush a toliet, open a garage door, and control a cable box. Not to mention you can sling a PSP and watch your home cable via wifi.

My friend lives in Japan, his toliet has a remote control, a built in radio, seat warmer, back massager, and it needs to be plugged in LOL hence how he homebrewed the toliet remote infrared control functions into his PSP. =)

Regular pen caps are ghetto, go steal a straw from 7-11.
