"Sidechaining" Tip

A lot of people tend to use compressor to side chain so the bass line ducks when the bass kick comes out. However I found it much more useful to fade out the volume of the bass line right as the bass kick comes in. You get a lot more control doing this than just a regular sidechain. Try it out let me know what you think

yeah but u dont get the squishyness of a sidechained compressor ;D

if you mess around with the settings and your applying it to audio (not midi) you can get the same effects your after..

I do that for gain ducking. That trick has been around for a long time. It's all that FL Studio users can do.

I've never tried to sidechain anything, I've never massivly felt the need to, but always wondered how.

Does fruity not support this?

I got a sidechain compressor but i had no idea how the to get it to work.

Sidechain effect in FL:

Make an FX Channel called trigger and put a FL Peak Controller in it, then put a kick sound through that channel. Thats the trigger.

Then in any FX channel that you want sidechained add a fruity compressor and right click on the threshold knob and click 'link to controller'. Then under internal controller select Peak+LFO or Peak. Then under Mapping formula select inverted. Then click OK.

Then you can play around with the ratio and peak controller untill you get the right sound.

Simple ;)

sidechaining sounds better! :)

side chaining a compressor vs. gain ducking always sounds better to me. not that i have any idea what the difference is, but a ocompressor always gives u that win pressure sound like you're in a dead room with bass up really high

If people stop beating around the bush and just give out straight tips, it would be much faster to skill up .. however i see producing as kinda like magic tricks.. a lot of peeps dont want to give out their secrets.
