You can try Madison Square Garden, Jacob Javits Center or even the Continental Arena in New Jersey the only thing is you probably need the right connections to actually book those venues along with hundreds of thousands of dollars but we're assuming you have these things. Most likely it would also depend on the music your bringing to the event (and if they are ok with it & also the type of draw that it does bring), and how much draw the artist's / entertainment will have in new york city. I guess public parks are a viable option as well ! You can try Summerstage..

Good luck with your future ventures !

Pier 94, a relatively new space (prior to its current incarnation, it was actually the command center following 9/11) - I think an event here would be interesting
www.pier94.com , but I don't see much info there
there's also info (not sure if it's up to date) at http://nje3.org/private/94/home.html

I'd say rent out a field like the one used for Woodstock.

Some others that were not mentioned. Nassau Coliseum, althought its not in the city it can hold that capacity or Shea Stadium in Queens.
Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens 23,000 seat capacity. Thats all I can think of for now.

Sounds like a Sensation type of capacity no?

Hammerstein Ballroom, pier 94, Great Lawn in Central Park although I believe they are restricted that space these days, Randalls Island, Battery Park can be organized into a nice STRETCH of partying.
