buy lots of tuna..cheap and incredible food

Italian stuff is generally pretty cost-efficient, if you do not care for the really good stuff (which can be quite expensive), plus as has been said, it can be frozen pretty easily.

Italian bread + pesto + tomato + mozzarella + lettuce (a bit) = :)

triscuits
cheese
hot chocolate

spend the rest on wine

Scrambled eggs
doz. eggs, couple of onion, mozzarella cheese, pepper and loaf of bread. Should cost you well under $10 and get about 5-6 serves out of it for breakfast at least.

Hunt around the supermarket and find some of those pre-chopped up green salads, they only cost about $2-3 at the most, $5 for a big bag, buy some tomatoes too, probably only cost you about $5 for half a dozen or so.
This is important because you'll get a lot of minerals and vitamins out of it and it tastes fairly good. Meat is a very hard thing to work into a tight budget, things like mince though is usually not to expensive and a sachet of $0.50 seasoning can make it taste less like ass.
Cook it
Strain it out the fat and grease under cold water and reheat it, add in your seasoning, onions, tomatoes and so on.

Potatoes, you can do so much with these it's not funny and theyre cheap, good source of starches. Mash, boil, bake, fry... all for about $5 with a bag that will last 2weeks or so.

But do try to eat something fresh once in awhile otherwise you'll turn into a scurvy pirate :thepirate

ultimate nachos

1 can refried beans
1 can sour cream
1 can salsa
1 can black beans
1 lb ground beef
1 onion
1 green pepper, 1 red, habanero, w/e
1 bag potato chips

Slice peppers and onions, fry until the onions until translucent. In a separate frying pan (or simply remove the vegies in another bowl) brown the ground beef. Strain out the resulting grease if desired. Return vegies; add sour cream and salso. Mix in refried beans slowly. Add black beans.

Top your favorite variety of chips with the resulting dip. I like using lime flavored tostitos personally. Add shredded cheese, olive, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, whatever you want. So damn tasty :p

Time - 20 min
Serves 4 or 5 easily
cost - $20 or so

Oh, and stay away from canned tuna. Heavy metals ftl :(

Oh man, Hint of lime Tostitos are so awesome. I prefer them all on their own though - I find that salsa or anything else kind of dulls the awesome lime flavour.

Lime Tostitos + margaritas = Elysion.

Now THAT sounds tasty.

quick garlic cheese bread:
spread butter on bread. sprinkle garlic on buttered bread. add cheese. toast in toaster oven.
quick pizza:
same as above, just add tomato sauce.

- Tuna is cheap and easy to make. add miracle whip/mayo and throw it on a sandwich.
- rice is also really cheap. a $3 bag will last a couple weeks.
- you could buy potatoes and prepare them in all sorts of ways. a sack of potatoes are cheap. try mashing them, baking them, cutting them up into slices and frying them. i like to add a lot of garlic, pepper, onion salt, sour cream, etc.
- hot dogs. cheap. get buns, a can of chili, shredded cheese and onion and you can make some decent chili dogs.
- eggs. at cheap grocery stores like aldi's (dunno if you have one where you live) they're less than a dollar for a dozen.
- frozen chicken breasts/breast strips/nuggets. kinda expensive, but you can make all sorts of meals with these so it's always somewhat original. sandwiches, tortilla roll-ups, stir-fry, chicken and fries, etc.
- grilled cheese sandwiches. with tomato soup of course. another cheap meal.

quick stir-fry: i live on this.

asian ramen (you can buy in 30 packs at asian groceries for like, 6 bucks. wai wai or dosirac are good brands)
vegetables: green pepper, onion, carrots, broccoli, bean sprouts, etc. sliced. all of these veggies are cheap. buy frozen if you can't afford the fresh stuff (make sure you thaw it first though)
spices.
fish sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, etc.
some sort of meat.
eggs.

prepare ramen. as it's cooking, add sliced vegetables and spices in about 2-4 tbps of oil in a frying pan (sesame or vegetable oil works well). fry until vegetables are crisp. afterwards, dump it in a bowl off to the side. next, take the meat and fry it in the leftover oil (i use chop suey meat or chicken. you could use anything though- sliced chicken breast strips works well). after cooking, drain and re-add the vegetables. lightly drizzle with sauce of your choice. fry for a couple minutes longer. by this time the ramen should be done. drain the noodles and throw the stir fry on top. top it off with a fried egg. voila. i like to add a whole lot of srirachi chili sauce on top :D

Which I've been eating more of as well as sardines and tinned salmon. So far so good. :)

Akridrot:

Learn to batch cook. You only need to buy a bulk of food in one go and once you've cooked whatever you like, it'll go a long way.

e.g.

Medium chicken - 4 portions
Chilli (if 2 lbs of mince is used including the other ingredients which should be cheap enough) - 8 portions
Lasagne - 6 portions/meals (I consider a square of lasagne enough for one meal.

These are the kind of things I usually make when batch cooking. Of course, I make other individual meals inbetween and I'm also on a budget.

If you want some my good ol' recipes, PM me and I'll send you some. ;)
