this is more towards south east europe, the ex yugoslav countries, bulgaria, italy, turkey, greece etc, where the racism has often been towards black people more often than not. |

| i've read about skinhead prolems and whatnot in russia. i've read about some african students being attacked. i would never ever put myself in a position and go to russia. it's truly a shame because not all russian people are like this. |

Prejudice has always been more widespread in Europe IMo, and from what I've heard skinhead movements are becomming far more widespread in recent years.

the problem is, there's so many people everywhere that if you're playing safe you wouldn't go outside in the morning etc. it's a shame that you have to let people win like that :( |

i see your point. i was just reading about some guy being shot with a rifle and his friends who were african were considering leaving. yes it's a shame to let them win like that, but it is too risky. the racists in russia want them to leave, and that's just what might happen. it's a good thing to be bold, but not when your life is at stake. |

The Kavkaz Center caused a controversy in September of 2004 when the server it was being hosted on, located in Lithuania, was shut down by Lithuanian authorities on hate speech charges, after a letter from Shamil Basayev claiming responsibility for the Beslan school hostage crisis was published on the site (Basayev and Udugov are claimed to be close friends). The website subsequently re-opened on a webserver in Sweden. |

well guys its a shame that u cant read whats written in bottom of the video. Being a opposition webserver, Kavkaz Center accuses Russian authorities of proviking this racism. They say that many of these sort of attacks happen in front of police officers and they do not do anything to prevent it. Being myself from Tajikistan, i know that many of my compatriates are working in Russia as illigal workers. They are becoming more often a primary tatget of russian skinheads( i wont use capital letters for this twats). A 9 year old Tajik girl was killed by skinheads in St. Petersbourg. Everyday there is a case of a Tajik either being attacked, stabed, or killed.
There was a bomb attack on the market where a lot of Caucasian( Armenians, Georgians, Azers) and Central Asians work in Moscow this summer. it was oranized by three chemistry students who were members of a racist group. It is trully disturbing, as there were many mixed marriages and in general during Soviet time a lot of Caucasians and Central Asians moved to Russia to bring benefit to that country. Their children are being killed only because of their skin colour. However its a common factor for a country which lives in to blame the bloody foreigners for all their trouble, rather than lookin at the problem within themselves (alchoholics, heavy drug users, and generaly lazy ppl who wont even be bothered to take the jobs foreign workers are occupying). |

The actions of skinheads are wrong. They were attacking probably innocent people.
I lived in Russia for 12 years so here's my view:
In my town, 80% of the muslims from uzbek, kazakh, takjekistan are not very respectable people. First off: they think they come to Russia and own the place, dont show respect for anyone. Lots of them are drug dealers, weapon dealers etc. Others usually sell fruit, shoes and other stuff but again, not very respected. Why? Well they are associated as being barbaric.
No-one in Russia likes skinheads, russian people are disgusted with them as much as you are. A guy I know, got his face sliced with a razor by Skinheads just because he was "in their territory". And he is Russian (blond hair, blue eyes). And its a rule of a thumb not to walk around in area where skins hang out. Its just looking for trouble.
Dont get me wrong, muslims are welcome to the country as long they are honest and good people. The people who steal, rape, bring drugs and weapons in the country and think they own it are not welcome. Call it racism, whatever but its a bigger problem then you think.
I dont think going around town and jumping random muslims or foreigners is a good idea. Infact, its f*cking unhumane and disgusting.
Again, if you lived in Russia you would understand me better.
Its very ignorant and unfair to claim "all Russians are racist". Yes there are morons, skins, rednecks etc all over the world. but you cant put a tag on a country and call it racist because of some morons actions.
I was born and raised in Russia. But my skin color is naturally dark and I have black hair. Since I have some kazakh blood in me. When I was in Moscow last summer, I got stopped by police several times, they were asking for my passport. @ the airport some takjik guy came up to me asking if I was muslim :o So fiy Im not a typicall russian looking. |
