Minimalism lacking direction?! (pg. 4)

One of the biggest things people seem to utterly fail to realize is that mixing what you folks consider "minimal," and doing it well, is not as close to mixing house and trance well as many appear to think.
So in the end, we have this rush of house, trance, and prog DJ's sprinting to bang the trend of the day out who end up doing a miserable job simply because they haven't taken any time to get to know and understand the music they're spinning. |

Anyways my input on this:
I'd usually turn to see what the meaning of minimal is in wiki and the dictionary and compare it to the genre, but honestly minimalism (imo) as a form of music is the total opposite of the dictionary meaning.
I believe minimalism has far more emotion and thought put into it than trance could ever have. The state of mind and feelings most people put into a single pulse and arangement of percussion, glitches and melodies through drums is out of this world. Rather in trance all you get is this melody that should reletively tell you the direction of emotional frequencies it is heading towards.
While in minimalism, the atmosphere and patterns that surround all these hypnotic and sounds cooresponds together with eachother to create, really a tune of pure melody and deep thought. Many people don't get it and find it so plain and boring because they're not in the correct mind set.
Same goes with deep house and house itself as a genre. It's less climatic than trance, yet it creates an atmosphere that tells you stories without needing all that hibba jabba saw melodies trance really does. |

Minimal, whatever it means: minimal tech, micro house, glitch house, ketamine house, neo-trance, etc, etc, etc
ROCKS.
It rocked 1 year ago when there was no craze about it.
It rocks a little less now that there is a craze.
And it will rock tomorrow. |

great post in regards to the matter. Loads of the bandwagon jumpers think that its just like mixing prog, trance or house. It just makes the ones that do it well sound even better.

| Am I not wrong but didn't minimal and electro house peak in 2004? I don't see why people care so much two years later. |

I'm so confused. I thought we were talking about that electro house stuff with the farting basslines. Not real electro. |

Yeah. People tend to call funkless farting bassline house 'electro' for some reason. Perhaps P-Funk links it, since fart basslines was pioneered by Clinton and his posse. |
