Christmas is all about shopping anyway, and most international airports have retail outlets. Stores and shopping centers are the very essence of the Christmas season. For the holiday season airports should decorate their stores with ribbons and leave it at that.

This made me sick to my stomach to read this. This is not what Christmas is about at all.

I don't even celebrate Christmas ... and it doesn't bother me if someone says Merry Christmas ... big deal I say Merry Christmas to you too

Its not like I will be sent to the devil if wish someone a Merry Christmas or see a Christmas tree.

The article says Christmas is about shopping ... tell me what holiday or hell even season has this marketing world not turned into a shopping event.

Im not. Its still hte airports bloody call at do as it wishes regarding what holidays to celebrate.

Just like how they may put up Xmas trees, but no display pumpkins on Hallowe'en or eggs on Easter.

Not displaying other holidays should not be an issue. Cant hit them all. Let het airport decide which ones they wanna take the time and funds to decorate for. It's their right.

some questions need to be asked.

1. 1st of all, whose paying for those trees?
2. who owns the airport?
3. if its a public company, why did they only allow for christmas trees and christianity related to be put there?
4. why did they neglect to celebrate other religious holidays?
5. what did the rabbi ask for originally?
6. why was it refused to him?

1. prolly the airport, i would assume.
2. im gonna guess its a public company owned by many many individuals and other companies as well.
3. why? who knows, but its their call to make. they own it. let them chose to allow for that decorations at their own discretion. we dont own it, thats why we dont get toe chose.
4. again, does it matter in relation to this? what other holidays are ever treated as bountifully as xmas re: decorations and what not?
5. to put up a menorah?
6. bc the airport didnt care to? it was their call to make.

+1 in regards to your comment about Xmas = shopping...

Hell, look at all of these stats that have come out lately how the hottest gift this year is Gift Certificates! haha.

THere was an article in the Star last week (i'm sure it was from stats Can) that showed the average Ontario person spent over $1,000 on Xmas gifts! I don't know when Xmas became like that, with a significant portion being Gift Certificates..how impersonal is that as a gift?

The only people that GC benefit are the corporations...why wouldn't they want to see them. They get there revenue in advance to invest or do whatever they want. And I don't know about you guys, but I'm sure i've received some GC that I've lost or forgottent that I've had, putting more money into the corporations...

True, and still I say, what ing right does the Rabbi have to demand that there are menorahs just bc there are xmas trees!?!?!??

if the airport wants to do that, then fine, but to demand and expect it of the airoprt or threaten to sue, RIDDICULOUS!

I'm not arguing with ya there, I dont think he has the right to demand menorahs (I'm jewish even, and I dont think we need menorahs all over the place!).

Yes, I can understand if he complained or requested menorahs to be displayed as well, since it is also Hannukah, but to DEMAND that they be put up and to SUE because they were not up is pretty ridiculous.
Abercrombie
now to really disturb the nasty stuff...

How about closing up restaurants for 40 days during the daytime to be sensitive to those who can't eat during their holiday?

I do not celebrate Christmas, but it needs to be protected.

All these idiots from other cultures/religions getting offended. If you do not like the culture here, then do not move here, or leave.

PS - I am Hindu(non practicing) and born in India, and I still think people need to start accepting Christmas.

Really? Then why are so many people freaking out about gifts?

Christmas lost its meaning along the way, and I think its very sad.

I'm pretty sure the people who receive gift certificates benefit also when they redeem them for goods or services.

You make it seem like gift certificates are an evil invention by the big bad corporation man. Why do you think they're available? People are obviously buying them.

really, this shouldn't be surprising... Christmas was hijacked a long time ago

maybe they can just remove the first 6 letters and call it "mas" or "giftmas" or "santamas"?

separate church/religion from everything, yay for north america

I am accepting of all religions and cultures. I might not agree with them, but I am tolerant and most of all intrigued by them. Why are others not always accepting of ours. I use ours loosely as I was brought up catholic but am not practicing and was never baptized.

Merry Christmas everyone.

If anyone is insulted by a Merry Christmas, they might as well go back to wherever, because Canada, and more precisely Toronto is so multicultural that they would never get away from all religious rituals and cultural traits.

Wow i am soo fired up, better to just keep it minimal.

The airport can put up whatever they like...if you don't like it SUCK IT UP!!

And why the hell are people calling it a Holiday Tree?? when it is a Christmas Tree!! does any other religion use the tree?? As far as i know NO... if you know otherwise please inform me.

If this is the case, then i object to calling it a menorah, it should be called a multi-branched candle holder. ( I am not trying to offend anyone, but just prove a point)

Bringing politics into religious holidays is just BS.

Why can't everyone just mind their own business.

I will say MERRY CHRISTMAS!! if you want to wish me a HAPPY HANUKKAH then Happy Hanukkah to you too!!

People should just celebrate their own religious holiday and leave others alone.
