| quote: | Saturday night mash-up: Big news for the Los Angeles club scene ... Spundae is set to abandon its longtime home, the aging Circus Disco in Hollywood, and will join forces with in-house promoters at Avalon under the Avaland banner on Saturdays, an insider tells us.
The move is good for both sides: It will give Spundae a proper, modern DJ arena (promoters have begged Circus for a major remodel for years); and it will allow Avalon to better compete with former in-house promoter Giant, which has moved a few blocks east to Vanguard. Giant has clearly been using its three-county muscle (with nights in San Diego and Orange County) to compete for top-draw DJs. With Spundae being absorbed into Avaland, it allows Avalon to use Spundae's similarly strong booking leverage (Spundae also has nights in San Francisco and Las Vegas). I presume this partnership will take effect at the start of the New Year.
As part of the deal, Avaland will also extend its night well into the a.m. with a regular after-hours schedule and additional promoting by longtime rave organizer Reza. |
Can anyone confirm this marriage of washing machine dispensers?
I'm not really looking forward to this since Avalon feels smaller and security there can be hit or miss. Will the easy lines that we all experience at Circus be at Avalon...probably not.
That's business for ya. |

| This would suck so bad! From $35 parking, insane lines and no room to move once inside, I don't think it would last long. The best part I remember about the place was the bathroom attendant: "I'll get you in as fast as I can, brothers..." Now that's service with a smile! |

| Dammit, now I won't be able to walk to Spundae anymore, if this is true. (not that i really go there often anyway, but still!) |

If that's true, it's going to suck big time! :whip:

I think that would be the worse move for SPUNDAE if that were to happen. There are many peeps that dislike that venue and everything else that comes with it.
I know SPUNDAE signed a contract with CIRCUS to be there for a certain amount of time. This was also said to me around that time, "DON'T WORRY, SPUNDAE IS GOING TO BE HERE FOR QUITE AWHILE." |

I have not seen washers at Spundae in a long time fyi!
I hope this is not true! That means no more Sunshine, Cole or Ernesto Drinks.
I know Circus has sound issues.. but I feel at home there.
I do not like the current Vibe at Avalon. |

good to know that this isn't true. it's also not a good business decision if this pushes through. a packed avalon is nothing compared to a packed circus. $$$:eyes:
but circus, please upgrade your equipment! |

That's because you spend your time standing right in front of the dj booth all night! ;)
They are still there, just not as noticeable since everyone is packed closer in with the other half of the room closed.
But I agree with you about everything else. I'm hoping this isn't true, but Dennis Romero is usually pretty good with his reports. |
