How many of you athiests out there celebrate Christmas? I just think like this is stupid and irritating.

LOL, I totally agree. Some people take things too serious. I don't believe in any higher power of any sort, but I still celebrate christmas (With my roman catholic family) because it is such a HISTORICAL and MULTICULTURAL holiday that has all types of traditions that have been sampled for over 1000+ years. It's really beautiful and interesting to know where the christmas tree originated, and why eggnog is a tradition, and why we kiss under the mistletoe.

As a Jew living in the USA.
I think is complete ridiculous how people have to be so P.C. and sensitive regarding 'Christmas' (there I said the 'C' word).
I don't care if people wish me Merry Christmas, I enjoy it a little as the people are just simply trying to wish me well.
On the flip note, I think how ridiculous Christmas has become in the USA, has lost almost all its religious meaning (IMO it is more of a secular holiday than the celebration of Jesus b-day) With people spending $100s for pagan trees to put more costly ornaments on, and the bizarre pressure people have in purchasing all there distant relationship thousands of dollars worth of gifts...
If the USA didn't have Christmas, I honestly believe the USA would have a saving culture similar to the Japanese :) |

Actually Christmas as the holiday we know it today is fairly recent creation of the past 50-80 years.
Before then the origins are mostly dark age/medieval where Christians had to 'revup' a holiday to get the Solstice celebrating pagans to accept their religion. Similarly to the way Jews have revved up Hannauka in the USA to make there kids not feel bad about being Jewish and not celebrating Christimas. |

| Seriously I hate organized christian churches but I don't give a damn if someone wants to wear a santa hat. Besides that though I do worship the sun upon occasion and December 25th is the birthday of Mithras the Sun God. So I'm kinda in for celebrating that specific date. |

Um... Without ancient pagan rituals, christmas would not be what it looks like today. Even santa clause was depicted as a pagan elf riding a goat.
