the Essentail mix schedule says this at the moment:

31 December - Essential Mix Of The Year - Trentemoller

probably. trendmoller was pretty much jizzed over for a long time before & after, and despite it being fairly average, people will always go for whatevers hot at the time. From the look at the coming month or so too, it looks like we're going to be lucky to see too much variation for those who like their music above 140bpm at times.

the sad thing was that one of the best mixes last year was the hour of christopher lawrence. I'd love to see him given an hour, or J00F, something different from just armin-tiesto-pvd-armin-jules-svd-halliwell chain. Also daft punk had a great year of performances, shame they never got chance to appear on it in a liveact, would've been good fun.

You could go on and on with Essential Mix, but when you boil it down, they are not nearly as creative, nor as interesting in the artists they select. Here's a few ideas I had, for what its worth...

UNKLE (haven't done one since 2002 I believe)
DJ Shadow
RJD2
BT
Junkie XL
Jose Padilla
Timbaland (I don't know if he ever spins, but if he did I'm sure it'd be sick)

I think their idea of changing it up every now and then is throwing in a D&B dj. Please.

SOS = mix of the decade.

My favourite Essential Mix of 2006 is clearly Christopher Lawrences, Very massive Indeed.

Oh off please. Now I see where people are coming from when they say you diss everything that gets popular. The mix pwned, his livesets ing rock (seen him live) and the DJ sets I've heard have been ridiculously awesome. Sure not all of his releases have been the A+ this year, but they've all been pretty good and he rocks a party like none other!

Personally, I think he deserve's it.
Master Kush
Well deserved from him...his mix was awesome.

And I can't understand how you can say the set was average. He played soo many obscure tracks (most non-edm) for the first hour...which made his set very original. To be honest, i'm pretty surprised he won it...considering most of it was far from mainstream.

Anyways, the guy has been on a tear the last two years, getting both commercial recognition and critical praise. He is one of the most talented producers in the edm world no doubt.

I thought his mix was rather brilliant. Well deserved award. It was far more innovative than last year's winner.
DJ Mikey Mike
It was a good EM - but there have definitely been far better this year.
