Also, what was that song that Sean intro'd with... sounded like an AC/DC remix or Zepp? Very nice night, everyone was into the music and heard some nice tunes. |
AC/DC - Thunderstruck (? Remix) |

We got there at 1, near the end of Thomas Datt's set. It wasn't bad, pretty standard trance. I remember hearing him mix in Oceanlab - Satellite as we were making our way across the dancefloor. BTW, running into all of you guys, I thought I wasn't going to get to the bar by closing time :p .
Anyhow, sorry, but Sean's set didn't really do a lot for me. There were parts that I liked, but hearing his remix of Children killed it for me. I LOVE the original and the Dream Version off of Dreamland, and his mix just isn't as pretty and melodic. I mean, it's not terrible, it's just that when you love a track so much the way it is, you don't want to hear it changed, even if it is to make the track bigger and more club friendly. It'd be like if Barosoap got a boob job :happy2: . I did miss 20-30 minutes of the set around 3:20-3:45 when I had to leave for a short period to send someone home, so I don't know how that sounded.
When I got back in around 3:45, Sean was finishing up pretty nicely, with some decent tracks, leaving way for his brother to finish up the night. Ryan, I would like to again thank you for your closing set. You took what had become at that point a pretty ty night for me and turned it around. You played tons of tracks that I love and made ones that in retrospect, don't look like they'd flow, but having heard them put together that way, sounded great (ie. WOW - Mindcircus & James Zabiela - Robophobia in the same set). Also, I actually like that mix of Comfortably Numb, who's is it? The only thing it lacks is the energy going into the last guitar solo that the original has, but other than that, it's a pretty good remix of the original Pink Floyd song.
As I said when I was leaving, your set was up there as one of the better ones I've heard this year. Hopefully 2007 turns out to be a breakout year for you and I'm looking forward to seeing you out the next time. We'll probably check out you and Chloe Harris @ the Shelter basement, but hopefully they fix some sound issues there by then. Please tell me you're not playing the 10 or 11 slots, as we never get out that early.
See I can compliment a good set :p |

Last night was insanity.
Right off the bat thank you so much to everyone who came out from TA, this party was yours and wow what a vibe did you all create for everyone.
I didn't meet everyone name by name by I met most of you at the door and such great vibes from everyone, even if that is redundant, that's all I can say!
Mike and Frank did a great job opening. They had a full dancefloor by the time they finished up and there was a lot of energy. You guys are def playing a PEOPLE event again, no question.
Thomas Datt, I have to admit that I didn't see the majority of his set being upstairs but what I caught was very good and he had the place going. He also left a nice amount of headroom for Sean which is the sign of mature, humble artist. He had a packed house and could have gone balls to the wall. Thanks Thomas if you're on this board! Sean asked Thomas to play a longer set because he was killing it so well.
Sean. It's hard for to be objective about what Sean does/plays because I've been watching him play for years. A lot of jokes last night were about our first ever event that was on a Thursday night in 04' at Downtime (which was a -total- hole) when Sean was still starting from scratch and we had literally no idea what we were doing. Ironically, Sean headlined that night but Ryan closed it out just like last night.
Just looking at it as a promoter, you can't book a better act than Sean. The place was there to see him, and were very excited. We love Sully because of the coziness of the booth to the audience and Sean was interacting a lot, people invading the booth for pics with him, a little ass grab, etc. One thing I can say having watched Sean grow into this from day 1 is that he has really developed a stage presence and is a highly entertaining performance artist, which is bottom line.
I loved his set, I love it more since so much what he plays has his production fingerprints. He opened w/ a Thunderstruck mix that he put together just for last night, played a few bangers and then blew right into Lift. From there on he just kept it at a peak level and it was great.
When Ryan was supposed to go on, this is during Sean's encore, he turns to me and says, "What the am supposed to play after this?" and I said, "I have no idea but good luck!" but it has to be said that Ryan's set was the set of the night. He came on after a star headliner, started from scratch with a little Cirez D and Ryan literally kept that party going strong for another hour and a half. The owner/managing partner of Sully's was arguing w/ us about closing at 5 because of the NYE weekend ahead but he turned and said, "I want to close this down, but how can I?" (as he motioned to the full room). Great stuff bro, proud to have you as part of the PEOPLE family.
Went to Tyler's place afterwards, God we need to send fruit baskets, etc. to this poor guy. What a sense of humor. He is home, on the verge of passing out when literally 40 people (mostly people he did not know) rolled up heavy to his place and just took over. They got their party on (hard) and rolled out at 10 am leaving a sea of destruction. Tyler you have have earned lifetime compage to People events.
Finally, to the TA community, thank you again for coming. This was, in many ways, our introduction to all of you and vice versa, as we have not put together events focused on the trance market in the past. From all of your comments so far in this thread, it's great to hear that you had a blast. We really do a lot of extra things to try to make our events seem like a family party and last night was all about that. Sean we will back, that is a guarantee and we will absolutely work w/ the Frequency Driven guys again. Good or bad we're stuck w/ Ryan, and Datt was great too.
Happy New Year, anyone coming to our after hours tomorrow night (this weekend is the party olympics for us!) we highly recommend that you either get there early, or late.
Thanks again!!!! |

haha nobody is "stuck" with Ryan. He is an outstanding DJ!
Everyone has such great reviews of last night, but Im also glad it went well for the DJ's because you could tell from the excitement of this thread that they really wanted this night to be great! Awesome times, guys!
Eric: Does this mean you might do more trance events?? ;) ;) wink WINK!! |

when this weekend is over we'll all sit down and talk about how to focus our 07' bookings. Sullivan Room, which is our home, is expanding and it's tough to know what kind of impact that will have in advance. It is not typically a trance venue though I think their opninion may sway after last night, LOL.
Right now we're focused on our NYE afterhours event, which is the craziest and most draining party of the year for us and then moving on to our party at Shelter on 1.27.07 which we are very excited about. |
