| wow. how about a big massive "who cares"? anyone that can tell the difference between HD DVD & blu-ray are the type of people that would be buying a stand-alone player. buying a console primarily as a media station is just dumb. they never perform as well as a dedicated product. |

so you're saying that Sony and Microsoft have wasted their time in investing into these two technologies? the quality of Hd-dvd and blu ray has nothing to do with what system its on wether its a stand alone or a gaming system. its based on the mpeg decoder and the lens. so in reality it doesn't matter. as both sony and microsoft's systems offer very high end playback. and yes people would care, considering ps3 is $600 dollars and a stand alone blu ray can go as much as $1100 dollars. both will more than likely offer the same picure quality. |

no, im saying those of us that consider ourselves gamers shouldnt care about the tech competition, it should come down to which system has the best games. and the demon's thread is essentially just another fanboy thread about how much better the 360 supposedly is.

ill take your word for it. the xbox & PS2's dvd playback are a joke compared to my stand-alone pioneer player. |

If what you are watching is so boring that you are so disengaged from the content of it to notice the differences between ANY of these formats, including regular DVD... then you are better off doing something else with your time entirely.
I mean, honestly, this quest for ever-increasing video quality has officially crossed the threshold from marginally worthwhile to complete and utter stupidity. We're now talking about capturing details so minute that you usually wouldn't even notice them if you were there in person. I hope that the people who are paying for these new formats that these companies have invested millions (billions?) in developing and marketing realize that the very same new details that they can now see are being filtered back out again in their brain the 99% of the time that they aren't specifically looking for the details. |

ever since I got HD it's all I've been watching
it's painful to watch normal channels so details to me are important, whether i miss the shading on the leaf behind the actors head or whatever anything someone wants to pick at. the truth is not the individual detail but the fact that all those details combined make one superb picture.
Some may not notice a difference immediately, others will, fact is, after I've watched HD compared to normal DVD, even normal DVD is a bit painstaking compared to the glory of HD.
So if you want to toss around the Blu-Ray, HD DVD battle once again, fact is people will ALWAYS be split on this opinion. And until one or the other becomes the standard medium everyone needs to calm their nipples down and ACCEPT BOTH MEDIUMS without reflecting on the negatives.
My opinion, Blu-Ray comes into the market end of 2007 and shapes 2008 as becoming the new standard. There is just soo much more space that allows developers to do as they please, not from just the recording in HD phase, but the story board and production layout can/will change rapidly! |
