That sucks because what if you go out, buy a cd and want to rip it to your computer and listen to it? When you do that the mp3 files will be the same as if you hadn't bought the cd and just downloaded them...it can't tell the difference it seems.
There are also sites where you can purchase mp3's such as emusic that offer non-DRM mp3's. So you wouldn't be able to play mp3's that you PURCHASED through these sites.
Isn't this one of the problems people had with the Zune where it wouldn't play non-DRM music? There will hopefully be loopholes through this, otherwise I'll stick to XP. |

wtf? are you sure you're getting your facts straight here? i thought it's only that you can't play drm files over s/pdif, but you can play anything else. and you can't play drm files over s/pdif because it's easy as to record the signal and turn it in to a non drm file without any loss in sound quality.
anyway i think M$ is shooting itself on the leg with vista, i for one am not getting it. i think i have to switch to linux then, too bad it's kind of a hassle for me at least. |

| I am using vista ultimate since last 2 months and i have had no problem listening to any live-set i downloaded from NYTA thread. I could rip CDs and can listen on winamp. I think the above was bit exaggerated. |

Well, Microsoft had to apiece the RIAA and MPAA by introducing a very strict form of DRM called Aacs. Its an extreme form of content protection that prevents the legitimate user from making backup copies of music or movies that they buy to put into portable media devices. And another thing. Vista will have an extreme measure of security that it will constantly monitor what you do on the OS in case you do something like hacking it and causing the OS to completely shutdown. Its so extreme that it will not even let you install unsigned drivers. |

The Zune has the most idiotic function known to man. It lets you share music wirelessly with another Zune, But the person who received the music is only allowed to listen to the tune 3 times on a 3 day period. After that, The tune won't play any more. |
