Lot of people say: "A great DJ means he/she should select music well and mix very smoothly! I dont care what the DJ's look like. I dont care if he/she act like . I dont care if he/she pay attention to the crowd or not!"
In the book called "how to DJ properly" and "last night a DJ saved my life" believe what Fatboy Slim said below is accurate.
"It's communication. It's wheter they're communication to the crowd and whether they're receiving the communication back from the crowd. For me, its whether they look up or not while they're playing" - Fatboy Slim
"A good DJ is always looking at the crowd, seeing what they like, seeing wheter its working; communicating with them, smiling with them. And a bad DJ is always looking down at the decks and just doing whatever they practised in their bedroom, regardless of wheterthe crowd are enjoying ir or not." - Fatboy Slim
For the adds, I also have the DVD of Fatboy Slim. He seems enjoying, the crowd were enjoying too. in fact, hi mix like .

Only an idiot DJ wouldn't pay attention to what the crowd's reaction to their track selection was.
And dude, if you need to buy a book about "How to DJ Properly" then I'm thinking you may not have much of a feel for it :conf: |

If the DJ's style is High Quality music.
while he knows that the crowd love cheesy tunes, unlike
DJ SAMMY - HEAVEN
Pulsedriver - Whistle Song
Should He play those cheesy music in order to satisfied the crowd.
What about His PRIDE? |

this means, these kind of people diddnt care if any DJ really care about the crowd or not. |

you don't think "selecting music well" involves selecting music appropriate for the particular crowd?
refer to Sushipunk's first sentence |

It comes down to personal preference.
Many people go to a gig simply to enjoy the music and have a good time, whereas others get hyped up from the DJ's reaction with the crowd.
John Digweed is a prime example of the former reasoning, and Eddie Halliwell would be one for the latter. |

I think both work....
Iuno... PvD has such amazing sets and energy though he doesnt really look up or crowd interact much. He communicates more with the music than with the theatrics imo. |

What does theatrics have to do with interaction? |

just NO! selecting music for a crowd make u colorless. If dj is a job and money is the goal, selecting music to be popular is the key. BUT if Youre doing it for Urself, you gotta show your personality, some guts, and it's not by pleasing me, i'll think you ave talent. |
