I just felt that this really, really needed to be emphasized.

I think that list has inspired me to try and come up with my own.

hah.. its done the same 2 me as well lol - but I dont think the list is "awful". there are some contenders on it. the list is quite cookie-cutter though, perhaps that is what you are referring 2.

Always loathed it.

...even if they're going for the most popular & memorable, it's still a bad list.
delobbo
whats funny is, i absolutely HATED that song when it was out. i didnt realize i now liked it until about a year ago, when I randomly heard it playing somewhere.

Same - Also, about halfway through trying to "rank" these 1-20, I realized I couldn't do it and really feel comfortable - So these are really no order. It was hard enough to pick 20 tunes from the last 20 years that I thought were REALLY my 20 favorites, ranking them would have been near impossible.

20. Blur - Mellow Song
19. Beastie Boys - Get it Together
18. Gang Starr - Work
17. Medeski, Martin, & Wood - Partido Alto
16. Phish - Born Under Punches (Talking Heads Cover)
15. Black Star - Thieves in the Night
14. Beastie Boys - Super Disco Breakin'
13. Phish - You Enjoy Myself
12. Stardust - The Music Sounds Better With You
11. Starkid - Crayons
10. Pearl Jam - Daughter
09. Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World (Bowie Cover)
08. OutKast - Elevators
07. The Talking Heads - Take me to the River*
06. Parliament - Bop Gun (Endangered Species)
05. Ice Cube - It was a Good Day
04. Nirvana - Plateau (Meat Puppets Cover)
03. A Tribe Called Quest - Bustas Lament
02. Talib Kweli - Good Mourning
01. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge

*I really love "Take me to the River," but picking a Talking Heads tune was very difficult given the 20 year limit - Please see "Naive Melody (This must be the place)" and "Slippery People" :)

OK you are a big jerk for stealing 3 of my tracks in my preliminary list. :(

And I think I'm going to make a "Top 25 from the past 25" because one of the tracks I really want to include is more than 20 years old. :)

Well, there are some right awful songs in that last. Britney Spears and Gnarls Barkley in the top 20 tracks in the past 20 years? Give me a break really. But yes, there are some damn fine tunes in there as well.

1. Which 3?

2. No fair, I had to exclude a LOT of my favorite tunes because of the 20 year rule :p
