have you ever seen Stomp the Yard or that other cockfest movie about dancing? well basically, the "philosophy/idealogy/wankology is that the the more your are doing a completely sausage-fest activity (stomping the yard, chess tournaments, message board posting), the more skilled and experienced you are are at doing a sausagefest activity to put on the social resume.
it makes sense on TV. why not in life? |

The difference is that a member who is new to any particular forum may have more experience posting on forums than the most senior member. They may also be more intelligent, funnier, etc., yet the custom is to marginalize the n00b for as long as possible. While the act of hazing n00bs can be fun for it's own sake, it looks like primative territorial posturing. The irony is in elitist intellectuals behaving like a troop of chimps.

Ah yes, another interesting ironic principle. It seems to me that anyone who posts on a forum is an attention whore to some degree. Did you not post the above statement to draw attention to yourself? |

why does the so called "n00b" feel the need to tell everyone that he/she is so great? so wise? so much more knowledgeable than the "elitests"?
sure, there is a chance that the n00b does know more about certain things. but is it possible for the n00b not to?
a freshmen in high school generally knows less than a senior. generally. |
