Sometimes protecting your culture requires war.

War takes lives...and money. Read your American History book.

A touchy subject that's really hard to give a definite answer on. Is it enough to warrant a full-on assault? Or is the "culture" really in no/minimal harm to begin with?

looks like the republicans method of isolating everyone has failed miserable with respect to iran and n. korea. and look! because we moved our troops from afghanistan to iraq, the taliban's making a strong comeback. puh-lease, the republican method has failed since the outset of the iraq war.

Republican, republican, republican... your over use of this word shows how limited you are. If you ask a republican what they think, most will tell you that they dont exactly agree with what Bush is doing.

Also, to say were strictly in Iraq for oil is quite stupid. If we were that desperate for oil, we could have just gone for Venezuela and Chile since they have the most. GW got himself into a really ed up situation, he knows it and now he has to stick with it. Hes the commander and chief, he cant go back on his word and say he was wrong. Personally, I would just let the Iraqi's kill each other and then come in to clean up when its over.

I agree though, the focus of attention is skewed.

This isnt war, this is bull. Its like the difference between the chinese water drop torture method versus just putting a bullet in the persons head. If we were gonna go to war, you go there, kill and destroy everything in your way and its over with. We probably could have done this within a couple months in Iraq, but no... they had to milk it into 4 years.

Before we all jump on Giulliani's hero bandwagon. Let's stay focused on his political record. As mayor of NYC duting the mid-90's he was responsible for signing many laws that inhibited public gatherings, stricter cabaret laws, and cut funding in many of the city's art programs. All of these are things that affect each and every one of us here on TA on a regular basis. Sure the guy is was hero on 9/11, what do you expect? His city was the ground zero for what was probably the biggest hit on the American mainland. But does that exclude him from his extremely conservative ways that could one day run the entire country? I surely hope not.

He was also a District Attorney that took apart the mafia in NYC. He also lowered crime in NYC to record lows, which is still low.

Oh, but Hillary is better. Lets put our focus on gay rights, the womans lib. front, trying diplomacy in places that dont give a ... this is going to make me feel much safer.

I don't like any of the current choices.

He did this by ruling with a conservative, iron-fist. By forcing his views on others to make it so. He forced policy on the city without regard to the personal rights of those who lived in it. Sure it worked out in the end, but do I feel safe having the country ruled by yet another conservative tolitarian?

No I don't.

I'm not a die-hard Hillary supporter, either. But let's face the reality that the current tactic (in regards to world diplomacy) isn't working either. Our world (outside our own borders) is a far more dangerous place than it was 5 years ago. Even our "allies" are beginning to lower thier heads in shame. Countries like Iran and N. Korea give us the big "F-You" when we confront them about nuclear weapons. Our government then cowers down like some schoolyard bully.

I think it's time that we start focusing on internal items like gay and minority rights. It's about time that we focus on our homeland economy rather than homeland security. Our government spends Billions of dollars more on a war that we've already won. Meanwhile, within our own borders, millions of our own citizens' homes are destroyed (yet again) by another natural disaster.

Who will I vote for? Well that depends on who comes correct with the issues that affect me. Somebody who feels that our schools need a drastic makeover. Somebody who can recognize that $7.00 an hour isn't enough to live off of. Somebody who's not afraid to take a stand against the big companies who hire illegal immigrants. Somebody who will truly stand up for the right of the American citizen. This is who will get my vote.

I'm sorry, but I don't see Guilliani making the grade on this. I feel he's gonna be another "yes man" to the government machine. I feel he's gonna do like the current leader and do as he pleases when he wants to, despite the interests of the American public.
