It's merely an example. Feminists will fight topics like "unfair" prices at the hair salon, but when it comes to who gets custody of the child, or who is more likely to be the guilty person; the result favours females.
Feminists seem to have a hard time comprehending the idea that life isn't always "fair". |

I actually had no idea she was an important feminist philosopher (along with Sartre)...until I did a little research after looking for a novel of hers online. I don't really know ANYthing about feminism, but discovering this about De Beauvoir piqued my interest. Now if I could just find the time for personal reading. |

What sort of equality did you have in mind?
I was thinking of equality before the law, and attempts to eliminate irrational biases. |

The classic example of where certain feminist ideas of equality break down would probably be pregnancy. In my opinion, it's not reasonable for mothers and fathers to be treated equally solely based on the fact that women have children. What the practical implications are for this would obviously be discussed on a subjective, case by case, basis - but it's one area I think even a lot of feminists would agree with, and really decimates a lot of the logic behind their philosophies. |
