if it came down to just those two factors, the acceptance rate would be much higher for the top tier schools.

i didn't bother applying to Yale for two reasons:

1) i figured i wasn't going to get in anyways
2) i didn't want to pay a $75 application fee just to get a rejection letter. LOL

exactly. ivy league is just the sports league started in the early 20th centuries by older colleges. quality of program and old-fashioned prestige are two completely different things.

except for the fact the ivies are among the best schools in the country. coincidence.
CrazedOut
Ivy leagues, go community college :p

yes, "among", but not "the".

if you were to get a good computer science degree, where would you rather go, yale or mit?;)

of course, you have to have some intellectual horsepower. but when it comes to your daddy's affluance, i wouldn't say it is of great importance to the school. not being rich is certaintly not a hindrance to getting into harvard.

i am yet to meet a spoiled rich kid in a top-tier school, and i've met with a lot of students from pretty much all the best schools in this country.

there are plenty of them. But then again, there are plenty who aren't.

exactly my point. while being rich can help you, not being rich doesn't put you at a big disadvantage - and there are a lot of examples.

its always a bit of a balance. ivy is always the ultimate of US schooling, but it never quite suits everyone the best. you need to look at what you want to do, or whether you even know what that is.

hifalutin school organizations have their pros and cons. especially elite schools. i went to UM, Michigan-Ann Arbor and it was a fantastic experience however i felt about it. school can be all screwing around, or it can be all work and no fun. the location could be perfect, but the school sucks - or the opposite, like Michigan.

the Ivys are like and old boys club. ranked the best, supposedly tough - yet celebs get in. know where you'd like to go, research it, and do what you want. ivy could lead you to being the next Bush or Kerry and that doesnt mean much|
