LOL <(^^,)>
I don't think neither wins.. the music is just so different it's hard to compare. Icelandic artists make often more stylistic, artistic, sophisticated and all'n'all less mainstream targeted music than the Swedish ones usually do.
Musicwise it would be more fair to compare Iceland with Norway.
PS. don't forget múm or the ex-Gus Gus member, now solo'd Emiliana Torrini from Iceland. |

This is really broken down to a competition between Silvia Nott and Basshunter.
Personally, I'm inclined to go with Basshunter. |

Yes, mum make amazing music. Fantastic music by Iceland. I'll vote for the leftfield experimentation and sophistication of iceland. Sweden gave us hard swedish techno (you know the "Schranz" or whatever it is called, the one that you listen to one dj-set, and the whole set sounds like one train-like track...), which is the worst music genre that ever existed IMO (together with u.k Hard House). Torturous. Another reason to vote for iceland then!
p.s. Sweden is also famous for its "melodic death metal" genre or what was known in the 90s as the New-Wave of Swedish Death Metal. Key-bands were At The Gates, Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Hypocricy and Opeth. Far from the barbaric sound of american death metal, swedish death metal was very melodic and complex (a kind of continuously-changing interplay of melodic quitars and effects) and exhibited strange dark thematology and even deep existential philosophical lyrics (e.g. the lyrics by dark tranquillity). Other famous groups were Tiamat and Katatonia if i remember well. That was actually not half-bad, if you ignore the (brutal) vocals the music was pretty listenable as far as i remember.Hmmm....still Sigur Ros takes them all! |
